00 this week we will be continuing in our series on the Book of Luke Will be in Luke chapter 14. You're welcome to turn there. if you Use the you version app. You're welcome to find my notes or scriptures that I reference in the YouVersion app. If you don't know how to do it. Ask the person next to you. Especially if they're under the age of 50.
47 Just joking, but not really. Anyways before we get into this week's Passage. I want to do what I do every every Shabbat when we when we talk about Luke is just give us a quick reminder on the author. The author is Luke the purpose the purpose we find in Luke chapter 1 And he's writing to Theophilus. Theophilus is the recipient. And we taught we spent quite a bit of time discussing who Theophilus might be is he a particular person or is he representative of everyone? I I believe that Theophilus is a
33 particular person but I also believe that we can take the encouragement that Luke is writing to Theophilus and apply it in our own lives for the same reason that he's writing to Theophilus which we find here in Luke chapter 1 verses 3 through 4. Therefore you're Excellency since I have carefully investigated all these things from the beginning. It seemed good to me that I too should write you an accurate in ordered narrative. so that or for the purpose of When you see a so that in scripture, that's for the purpose. This is where we're getting our purpose from. So that you might know how well-founded or for sure. Are the things about which you have been taught you see so
18 I I extrapolate from this that Theophilus is already a follower of Yeshua. And he for somewhat for whatever reason is going through. Some tests and trials maybe and as caused him to question or or begin to have questions about his faith or or even about Yeshua himself and so Luke is writing the Theophilus. Addressing. This is the purpose of the whole book. So I think that we can take this and in our own context when we have these difficult times and difficult questions, and I think that Luke can just as easily be writing to us in applying it in our own lives. In the Book of Luke what we see is the inbreaking of
05 the kingdom of heaven. So we see the the kingdom of having coming in by by the arrival of Yeshua. But we also see the Kingdom of Heaven coming in this way or coming up through people bringing their lives into alignment. with the with the king so when the when people bring their lives into alignment with the King, it allows the kingdom here to swell and to grow and At some point it will meet the coming king and the two will become one. Does that make sense and the King will then sit upon his throne in Jerusalem? Yeshua has already come but he will come again.
52 And he will sit on his throne as king and so until that day. It's incumbent upon us. To continue to try to bring our lives into alignment with the kingdom or with the King. I just want to encourage all of you. all of us Will work I don't know if this is encouraging or discouraging all of us will work our entire lives. Trying to bring our lives into alignment and we will yet. fall short But don't worry, you have to continue to walk that every day. We're never going to get to be perfect.
39 But if you walk it every day every day you walk in Greater alignment with the kingdom of God and with the King. Is a day that the kingdom here on Earth grows? If you can just take one step. On one day in alignment with the king the kingdom of God grows, so that part should be encouraging. The fact that we never quite reach our goal. Well, sorry. So that's the we have this two-fold operation going on with the kingdom of heaven. But we also now are in the midst of understanding the location of where this text takes place.
25 So I brought it up and I think it was in chapter 9 toward the end. But here it's again in Chapter 13 that Yeshua is traveling. So in the big picture Yeshua is traveling from town. Through town to town heading up to Jerusalem. So he was in the Galilee area. And now he's heading up to Jerusalem. by the way I haven't talked about Luke. I don't think as a person and almost a year. It's my opinion. and we can have the discussion if you wouldn't have the discussion otherwise, but it's my
10 opinion that Luke is Jewish. for a couple reasons number one when Yeshua is making his way in chapter 9 to Jerusalem. The author writes that Yeshua was on his way up to Jerusalem. to become that familiar if you're not if you're not Jewish you have to be so soaked in the Jewish community that it's it's second nature. But there's other reasons that I other reasons. That's just a simple one at this point. But Yeshua is going up to Jerusalem. Why because as Jewish people we only ever go up to Jerusalem. You know, we're in Texas we talk about we can
56 go down to Houston. We can go up to Denton. Well if you're in Dallas. Or maybe you just always say you're going up to Dallas. but in Israel The only place that you always go up to. Is Jerusalem because it's on a Mountaintop? It doesn't matter where you're coming from north south east or west you have to ascend. the the slopes of Mountain Zion So it's always a going up to Jerusalem. Now that's the macro picture. Yeshua is in between the Galilee and Jerusalem on his way to Jerusalem. In this in the small set right
42 here that we're looking at that we're about to delve into is Yeshua has been invited to eat a meal. In a local Pharisees house who happens also to be a leading Pharisee. We'll talk about that in a few minutes and it's on Shabbat. So now you have what I would call the context surrounding the this text that we're going to look look at here. So chapter 14 verses 1 through 6. one Shabbat Yeshua went to eat in the home of one of the leading Pharisees. And they were watching him closely. In front of him was a man whose body was swollen with fluid. Yeshua spoke up and asked the Torah experts and the
28 Pharisees does the Torah allow healing on Shabbat or not. But they said nothing so taking hold of him. He healed him and sent him away. to them he said Which of you if a son or an ox falls into a well will hesitate to haul him out on Shabbat. And to these things they could give no answer. So again, we're looking at Luke 14 verses 1 through 6. We're going to go through verse by verse and just look at some interesting. information that we find first of all Yeshua Is eating a meal and Shabbat? That should surprise no one especially if
13 you're here. Because we all eat meals on Shabbat. It's a joyous. It's a joyous day to eat a meal. And to be joyful and to rejoice in the Lord. But he's here at this at a particular location. He's been invited into a leading Pharisees home. That's the the term here. The term here that that talks about leading or ruler. in connection with the Pharisee This is the first time that it's used in connection with a Pharisee in the Book of Luke. In fact, the same term is used in The Book of John to refer to Nicodemus. in John chapter 3 so I wonder is a question. I wonder if
59 if this isn't just some how can I respectfully say this? This is not just some. Rabbi living in the Hills or Pharisee living in the hills of Judea. But rather I wonder if it's someone who sits upon the governing body the religious governing body of Israel itself. Nicodemus was one of those. Now I tell you I've read this passage multiple times in this passage. In other ones in the Book of Luke. And I always see Yeshua gets invited to these.
45 to these meals and I feel like from early and Luke toward the end of Luke that the mood changes. At the meals one from a I don't know maybe perhaps indifference. to an aggressive against Yeshua by the end of Luke But he gets invited to this meal and oftentimes. I don't know about you guys. But when I read the scripture, I'm like man, this is Yeshua we're talking about this dude was like the Messiah. When he comes into town everybody, like let's have dinner at our house. Come on. Bring your friends. Like this is the honored guest.
31 But I actually I mean I'm not that did happen, but I don't know that that happened always and I think in this text, I think I have a strong argument that this is actually the opposite of what happened that Yeshua happened to be in town and happened to get an invite. to this to this Pharisees house And the reason I can say that the reason I take this. position is that Luke? Following this text verses 1 through 6 in the in the following verses the next Parable, which we're not going to talk about today. We'll talk about that on Wednesday. in those verses he deals with Who to invite to a meal?
18 And who to prioritize and where do you sit when you're prioritizing? Where do you sit do you sit at the seat on the seat of the steps? No, I'm just playing. Hi, bud. Where do you sit what seats do you choose? Do you choose the the main Siege in get called back down or do you choose the lowly seat and get honored? You see I actually am wondering. If Yeshua was a late add-on. to this Gathering and Yeshua, perhaps took one of the less honored seats. And all of the other honors seats were full.
05 Because they had this guest list. And that while he was there Yeshua tells this Parable. We'll talk about it on Wednesday night. But it makes me begin to question. how is this luncheon called a luncheon? Is this luncheon really for Yeshua, or is it for? Those others who are there and they tacked Yeshua on. It's interesting to me because if that's the case. the most important person is left with the least honored seat at the table. Whether and whether or not they noticed it.
54 Yeshua should have been the most honored guess but it seems from the from the parable he tells that perhaps he's not. And then the text says those who are there are watching Yeshua closely. I don't know about you guys. But have you ever been in a meal? Where you feel like everybody's watching you. and you're like which Fork do I take? Which side of my plate is the glass the drinking glass on? Which side is the bread dish on? I don't know. It's been so long since I took etiquette or whatever. The classes are the I don't know. I took it in Junior High. By the way, simple, can I just totally unrelated to this other than
39 the etiquette moment if you just do this? Maybe I should do it this way. One looks like a bee and one looks like a d. bread drinking glass bread drinking glass bread drinking glass super simple in terms of silverware start on the outside move inward. pretty safe But Yeshua knows that he's being closely watched and he's and he's there and there's this sick man right in front of him. So let's move on to this next verse. There's a man who's body was swollen with fluid and he's there in front of Yeshua.
26 right in front of Yeshua now I texted Dr. Daniel. Because I thought I needed some medical perspective. And Daniel wrote me and I said what I said, can you some of your versions may use the term dropsy or some other term in this in this context Daniel wrote me and he says this is referring to someone with generalized edema. Which is manifested by a swollen body due to water going out of the bloodstream into the soft tissue because of protein imbalance. He's probably watching and he's going. Oh, no, he's quoting me. Usually this is a symptom of an underlying kidney disease, but could also be liver or congestive heart or even some autoimmune diseases.
12 Besides the change in the person's aspect not it's not pretty it can be quite incapacitating if it progresses far enough. So this man possibly would have been ostracized by his appearance. And also would have been probably unable to support himself financially because he's in pain. And it's hard to work when you're in pain. In the Dr. Riley says further in his in his Study Bible. He says when the man was healed, he undoubtedly was relieved not only of the swelling. Caused by the fluid but also the disease that produced it so you see there's actually two conditions at hand. One is the condition interior. Which is causing?
59 The the rest of the condition going on. The pain is probably from the rest of the condition the swelling. This man is standing in front of Yeshua. Probably awkwardly. You can imagine being at a leading Pharisees house on a Shabbat. I'm going to take the position that he wasn't an invited guest. And I'll tell you why I take that position in a minute. But he's there and he's obviously looking for something from Yeshua. Because he can't get it from anyone else. the reason I take the position he's not invited guest is because the following Parable talks about don't just don't invite your your rich
46 friends to come over. For a meal invite the hold on. Let me just quote here. invite the disfigured people the crippled and the blind to the meal so the kingdom of God can be expanded. I also take the position that he's not an invite he because at the end when or well really right now when he's healed Yeshua sends him away. If he was if he was a guest. She would say it's just sit back down. Let's eat. But Yeshua sends him away. Oh, I guess I'm not quite at the healing yet. But anyways Yeshua right
33 before he heals this man Yeshua turns to everyone and he asks the experts this verse 3. He asked the experts both the tour experts and the Pharisees. If it's permitted for him to heal and Shabbat. Can I just tell you? That is such a loaded question. And Yeshua acid he goes. Is it permitted for me to heal and Shabbat? First of all, I want you to note. from a simple point of view if your car is in need of a repair. Who are you going to ask about what needs to be done the person at the deli counter at Kroger? or your trusted car mechanic Who are you going to seek the advice of the experts?
21 So from a simple point of view Yeshua is engaging the experts. Those who? fight and argue over what is permitted and what is not it seems simple to us when we think about car repairs to go. Of course. We're going to ask an expert. Though I will tell you the craziest things have happened. I've heard of people I think it was shot. I think it was Rabbi Sean. Who laid hands on his car when it broke down? And prayed and then the car started running again. I just recalling that story that was a funny story.
08 I also reminded one day. I don't know about you guys, but I'm the person out of my whole family. I like to know. my limits and how do you find your limits? Without exceeding them occasionally. So I like to drive my vehicles. You see on the dash. There's an e. But that's not really where you're out of gas. You see in cars that were before what we drive now, we didn't have the little ticker that says you got 13.2 miles left until we run out of gas.
54 We just had the E and we had to gauge on the E. So, of course, I'm driving home from high school one day. And my car is well. No, I'm driving to high school cars on the enemy. I'm running the lake I get to school so I get to school forget all about having no gas. I'm coming home from school. And I'm looking at the I'm looking at the E and I know I know in this car how far below the E. I can actually be. And I'm there. And I'm thinking there's no gas station within a mile of where I am. I'm in traffic. It's Rush Hour. I get stopped at a light going up a hill.
44 And my car says good. And I'm sitting there going. Oh. I mean, it's rush hour just hundreds of cars that are now delayed behind me. people honking I'm like, oh my goodness. I'm so sorry. Then I'm thinking awesome. How am I gonna get out and go find gas? Like there's it's Rush Hour. I'm sitting there. I just start praying. by the way We all really start praying when we feel we hit rock bottom. Like we rarely ask God for input before that point. Like God, what should I do? Go fill up your car with gas?
33 Yeah, no, I don't need that right now. That's later. I'm sitting there praying and I'm like Lord. Can you just please get me to the gas station? I know exactly where it is. It's too lights. I got to go up and down another Hill. It's about three-quarters of a mile. I'm like, I'm logically explaining this to God because you know, he needs that. And I'm like Lord, please and I've been now I've been sitting here for through two cycles of the light. And I just feel like I need to try to start my car. The light is green. Everybody's like moved on I start my car and it like Roars to life.
21 And I'm like, oh put that thing in gear. I'm like, no, please Lord, let there be no traffic now between me and the gas station. And he put me to the test because I'll tell you what I often do is Lord. If you can give me to the next gas station, I'll do it when my car starts. I'll try to push for two more. This one I decided I'm just gonna trust the Lord here. Trust the Lord with all my gas. Lean not on my own under understanding here. But anyways. I can't remember why I got sidetracked praying for praying for cars. You trust the experts on a car. As opposed to the people who are not experts. So Yeshua says, what do you think experts?
09 And I want you to note. That they said nothing. You see this is a catch 22. They're caught between a rock and a hard place. because if they give advice that's contrary and then he does it. They're left looking bad because here's a man who's been healed. But if they do it the other way. It becomes controversial among their circles because of the way hawakic rulings have already been made. So they say nothing. And Yeshua healed the man and send him on his way. Was Yeshua waiting to see what input they had?
55 I think so. But he didn't wait long. You see it's good to ask the experts if the experts don't say anything. And the Lord's leading move on because Yeshua doesn't waste time expressing his opinion his opinion in this moment or doing good. You see Proverbs 3:27 says do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in your power to do it. It's in yeshua's power to to heal this man. And he does. let's talk about Holocaust for just a moment because in modern times modern Holocaust
40 is there's three. There's there's a three-fold explanation here, which I'm just going to tell you. I'm quoting Dr. Stern. from his complete Jewish No his Jewish New Testament commentary? So if you're looking for something good to read that's a great assist when you're reading through the New Testament. He says on Shabbat. One of the Holocaust is on Shabbat healing to save life is not only permitted but a duty. Caring for the seriously ill those with high fever or pain affecting the whole body is allowed but within certain constraints. And finally treating minor ailments is prohibited
26 by rabbinical decree. The reason being that most treatments require the grinding to prepare the medicine and the grinding is a prohibited form of work so you can understand how holoca is built. But Yeshua brings five different arguments according to Dr. Stern. Against the way in which the Pharisees use their Holocaust particularly in the Book of Matthew Mark in the books of Matthew Mark and Luke. number one in the passage of Matthew chapter 12 Yeshua attacks the underlying premise the premise underline the oral Torah as understood by the Pharisees with an argument about priorities. Doing good deeds.
12 In other words doing good deeds is more important than observing the details of the Shabbat work rules. He strengthens the case. With a call the Chimera from a light to heavy argument we've talked about those before. In Matthew chapter 6 it's permitted to rescue a sheep. Again. This is according to Dr. Stern. It's permitted to rescue a sheep on Shabbat. How much more is it permitted to heal a man on Shabbat. So if we can rescue a sheep, how much more is a man's life more valuable than a sheep? In the parallel passage in Mark. He adds the Shabbat was made for man. Not man for the Shabbat which is to say that God's rules are to serve man and enable him to better glorify. God not to enslave
57 man and require him to glorify the rules. Rabbi Sean talked about this maybe he's two months ago month and a half ago. I think maybe and mentioned the Master of the House. Who does the work on Shabbat so that everyone else? Has Shabbat off because Shabbat is given for everyone for the servant for the for the animals for everyone. But it's not a Shabbat if you're an animal who's Captain a pin all day long. It's like you're in prison. And if the animal doesn't give fed, then they're starving all day. So someone has to feed the animal and let the animal out at least to go into the pasture. So
43 who does that work? It's the master or the lord of the house. And so who does that work on Shabbat Yeshua the Lord of Shabbat or our master. You also see in in John 5. He says Yeshua says my father has been working until now and I too am working. Which is here is correctly interpreted as yeshua's claim to Divinity and thus his need and right to work on Shabbat. Finally in John chapter 7 again. This is all still according to stern where he is just healed a man on Shabbat. He brings another call of Homer another light to strong argument light to heavy argument if his opponents allow circumcision on Shabbat, by the way, when when a baby
30 is born a baby boy. If the Eighth Day falls on a Shabbat. The the circumcision takes precedence over the Shabbat. That's that's halikah. So Yeshua says. If circumcision is permitted on Shabbat how much more so should a healing or a restoration of the full body be allowed or permitted on Shabbat? So these are these are five arguments that Yeshua uses considering the Pharisees. halacha And he looks at them and he says these are General good guides to behavior, but they can't be allowed to become oppressive.
17 And therefore their circumstances where one should break that. For the betterment or for the sake of doing good? Are doing what is right? Yeshua Asked them in verse 5 he says. if your son or your ox fell in a well Who would not hesitate to haul him out on Shabbat? You see isn't interesting interesting thing going on here. Could Yeshua be referencing one of two different passages in the Torah? The first is an exodus 21:33 when a man opens a pit or a man digs a pit and does not cover it and in ox or donkey falls into it the owner of the pit. She'll
03 make restoration. He shall give money to its owner in the dead Beast shall be his. you see well, let me read you the second passage Deuteronomy 22 verse 4 You shall not see your brother's donkey or his Ox fallen down by the way and ignore them. You shall help him lift them up again. You see the act of lifting is is work considered to be working to be breaking the Shabbat. What's fascinating is the Greek words for donkey and son? are super similar just a character or two off. So I wonder if there's just a typo if you will.
48 And it's not supposed to be his son. It's maybe it's just a dog. Maybe yeshua's quote straight quoting Deuteronomy 22. but if he's not if he is intentionally talking about son. Maybe Yeshua is making this law more personal to this situation. There's a son in this case of Abraham. Who's fallen in a ditch sick? And if the son or Ox is falling into a well notice. So here's another difference between 20 Deuteronomy 22 In this passage in Luke. In this passage in Luke he falls into a well What's in a well? water
34 What's the man's condition? He has water that's swelling from within. So this man falls into a well, he's oppressed by water on the outside in a pressed by water on the inside. It's like this his body is tearing apart at least in this metaphor that yes. She was giving In Yeshua has just drawn the water out of his body and drawn him out of the water in the same Act. this man Perhaps was drowning in a well. We don't know. But Yeshua by his act of healing him. Not only remove the water from within.
21 But removed the despair in the anxiety that was becoming oppressive to him from without even though within his own mind. I wonder is there a comparison between internal and external pressure from water in this case can the external pressure of water come through all of the trials and the persecutions that life may bring our way. Can the mounting internal pressure come from our anxiety our inability to deal appropriately with the vast volumes of terrifying information that we receive weekly daily hourly minutely. Whenever your phone dings. What's the bad news at this moment?
10 But the cure for the bad news at this moment. Is Yeshua? And it's Yeshua. Who is The Well of Salvation from which we draw Living Water. Who reaches out his hand? And heals this man of his condition with water. You see water? Appropriately so is a source of life for all of us. In fact, we can live without food. For at least several days. If not a few weeks. Water is another story. Water the longer you go without water your body begins to die.
57 I mean, I know your body begins to die also without food, but it dies quicker without water. So water. Is it like a source of primary source of life for us? When it is in the right proportions at the right time. When it's in the wrong proportions at the wrong time. Water can be destructive. I mean you see pictures from tsunamis and how destructive they can be. You see the just even around here when when it floods how destructive the the Lakes. Can become in the rivers? And Yeshua, then looks up. He's healed the man. He's given this parable about
43 the man with about the ox and the Sun. He says wouldn't you pull pull them up immediately? And the text says in verse 6 and they could not reply. to these things you see earlier when they were silent. It was as if they held their peace, they just wanted to see what was going to happen. But here. They they have no reply. They couldn't reply to these things. They have no answer for yeshua's challenge. Of this holoca ruling of that moment.
31 So what does this mean for you and me here today at Brook Hashem? Well a couple things number one what is permitted on Shabbat? I can't tell you how many times I get this question. Am I permitted am I not permitted to to do particular things? I'm just gonna tell you right now you none of you are gonna like my answer. But you really need to seek the Lord. in your life is it to just a righteous thing to follow the strict letter of the law? Or is it better to do good for others and help draw them out and draw them near to the Lord. You see we have one practice. We have a better practice, but let me tell you
18 the best. In everything that you do whether it's Shabbat or not. You always seek the counsel of the Rua. and if you don't you'll find sometimes you end up in the wrong spot. At the wrong time and have to deal with the consequences later. I told you you weren't gonna like my answer about what's permitted on Shabbat. Ask the ruach. If you believe that The Rock still speaks ask him and let him speak to you. How here's my here's my next question. And this one's gonna be a little bit more. practical Maybe
04 how is water? Affecting you today. And I mean it. In the case of what's going on here? Are you overlaiden? with the burdens of this world Are you has the the constant barrage? Comes so close to destroying you that you feel as if you're drowning every moment of the day. Are you drowning and being overcome by the troubles or the sewers as Stern uses in his translation of this world?
50 you see our minds and our hearts. Were not designed. to process the volume of information that we process hourly daily constantly with no break. We live in such a state of crisis. always that our bodies are beginning to break. And be overcome with illness. Physical illness not just it's made up in your mind. Our bodies can't handle it. You know I was
35 Used totally a nuts thing. most of us I mean looking out I would say most of us are what I would term adults that are above. That point where your brain stops growing. Or maturing I should say. I don't know. Maybe we never stop maturing. Or maybe we never start maturing. I'm not sure what anyways. Most of us are above a particular age. But can I tell you? teenagers in particular are not designed To handle the amount of crises that we have today. And they have it. every moment at the tip of their fingertips more so than any of us realize
22 You know, none of us realize what's going on with our teenagers. I know you think you know. but let me just tell you as the child of the former rabbi there's a lot that my parents never knew. That happened. So if you have a teenager, I want you to understand there's a lot. That you don't know that's happening with your teenager right now. Now that should terrify you. But also it should cause you to lean on God more. Because here's the thing. I was having a conversation with a teenager. before covid
08 before covid this teenager was like freaking out the world is gonna end. Like the world is ending. I don't know if you guys even remember like Australia was on fire. And it was all over the news. and then we sanctioned we had a government sanctioned hit on another government's on Iran's what was he the head of the Revolutionary guard or something like that? in early 2020 and this teenagers are we all gonna die like they're gonna start World War 3 and I was like
54 listen This is a good time to take a breath. Like it's not happening right now. But when it happens, you need to be ready. You see and now after that we coupled it with the world shut down. I don't know if you guys realize how unprecedented that was. The world shut down. And some of it has yet to reopen. And in all of that we have all of these other crises that are going on. We have states of emergency and all of these things. We as adults can't even process it. And yet we expect our teenagers and our children to process it. All of us have been living on a nice Edge. For three years. What do I do? Should I say
42 this? Should I not say that who's going to condemn me for saying this who's going to condemn me for not. The anxiety in the worry is what will eat away at your soul. And you know what? Yeshua says be anxious for nothing. But yes sure. You didn't know that the the world was gonna shut down for covid. Yeah, I did. The world changes for listen, I think King Solomon says there's nothing new Under the Sun. Okay, so covid was a little bit different but whatever. We have been living now on the brink of a World War whether or not you realize it for 11 months.
27 If that doesn't begin to eat at you. Than actually means that you've placed all of your trust. In the Lord or you just totally uninformed like those those give me one of two different tutors to be two different signs. He totally uninformed, but I don't know if you realize it, but what's happening in Ukraine? It affects all of us. I heard one person say that. They hadn't felt like this. since the the Bay of Pigs was that in 63 64 62. Thank you. That is 60 years ago
15 Wait, did I do my math, right? Yeah, 60 years ago. the noise the noise is always on do you realize that? I don't want to take a poll but I'm just a rhetorical poll. You don't put your hands up. How many of you sleep with this within Arms Reach of your bed? Now don't put your hands up. Don't put your hands up. Then powered on I should say. Because the noises always on. It doesn't matter. We can't how many of you oh man. This is a bad thing. I read recently that they recommended putting
01 your phone in the back seat of your car. So you don't forget your child in the car. Because we don't leave this anywhere. But we can forget our child in the car seat apparently. Like that's how connected we this is I think it was in the Dallas Morning News or some news agency. This is last summer. They said put your phone in the back seat. That way you don't forget your child and I'm like That's not the way that works. But then I also find myself driving and my phone is right here. Anybody else? I mean don't put your hands up don't put your hands up.
49 This is a dangerous tool. the noises always on the water from within and the water from without is constantly drowning us. I recommend. Taking some time. And putting some space. Between you and your phone between you and whatever whatever keeps you connected to whatever is happening in the world. Put it some space between you and it set some boundaries. and draw from the Water of Life The Living Well of Yeshua and not
36 the Waters of this world you see You think your teenagers have an addiction to their cell phone? But I just want you to know that they're modeling. They're they're taking what you model. And I know that's a strong statement. But your children learn from you then they learn more from you by what you do than by what you say. because if you say Put your phone down. It's dinner time. and then you Do pick your phone up? Those are those are two things that don't align and they're going to follow what you do and not what you say. To the point. Let me I'm gonna wrap up with this to the point. I had a
24 my we have a rule in my in my house that there's no toys at the table during mealtime. And my daughters were so lovely in playing with their toys during real time. And I looked at them I said. No playing with your toys. Jerry mealtime you guys can all know, you know exactly where this is going because Elder Ella is is very astute. And Ella looks back at me. Because I have just picked up my phone. And she makes me goes. Hey, Dad. Is your phone a toy? I looked at her at that moment, and I said I apologize.
10 From now on for the sake of dinner. You can consider my phone a toy. And if you see me pick it up you feel free to tell me not to play with toys at the table. Because our children do what we do. If we're stressed out because we've been soaking in the media and learning all of the anxieties of why we should be panicking today. If we've been soaking all of that up. our children are too But can I just tell you? As adults we're better equipped. To handle that stress for better for worse our children are not they don't know how to process it it becomes. Today in the world or certainly in America?
00 There are more teenagers depressed than have ever been. Why do you get depressed because of all of how bad the world looks? of all these things we should be afraid of and and we hear it running maybe we watch dinner with the TV on that's condemning. Maybe we listen to the news all the time, and we know I went over to someone's house. I really mean nameless. I went over to someone's house. I kid you not they woke up. I don't know 4:35 clock in the morning. And they went to bed at like 10. And never once did I hear the TV leave? The news channel and it was cable news.
47 all day long I was like, oh my gosh. I just I need to I need to get out of the house because the constant barrage of noise. And what it does is it takes up all of your bandwidth and you can no longer hear the voice of God. When all you listen to are these other when you when you when you sample all the other dishes? you forget what the main meal is like you forget what the word of God is and how he speaks to us. So let me encourage you if you have even an ounce. of anxiety in your life Which I suspect is probably all of us.
34 If you have that ounce. You need to be having conversations with your children open conversations with your children because they are experiencing at least tenfold. Whatever little bit of weight that you have they have even more. Because they don't know how to process it. They haven't lived life and learned how to process all of these. Crazy things and sometimes we're not meant to process crazy things. I know that sounds like stupid. But how do you process a World War why there's probably three people. That are in this congregation who could tell us how to process that? Because we haven't been here been that at that point in so long.
22 But when you go back and you watch things from the 30s and the 40s. and the 50s is a totally different life. And that was before we had cell phones. Now we have all the information at our fingertips and I really just looked at the time and I got to finish up. I just want you to know this. everyone everyone in here everyone watching. Is this man right now? The man who is overcome with disease is in a ditch in a well being drowned. by circumstances
10 it's time for us to open our eyes. And ask the Lord for healing healing doesn't come. Just from the removal of the trial. Healing comes when we find ourselves fully in him. That's where healing comes. And when we get there man, it's time to bring others along. So I once was taught. If you feel like there's someone further along in the faith walked in you grab their hand. And if you feel like there's someone who's not quite as far in the faith walk as you grab their hand. And let's all go together.
00 avina my Father in heaven Lord we come to you on this Shabbat. Lord and we seek your face. Lord we seek your relief Lord we seek to find ourselves in you and in you alone. 55:41 Lord, you know where each of us. stands Lord, you know each of our circumstances are Our housing issues. Our food issues are health issues our money issues Lord I just ask that you would wash down. Upon those who have stood up to taking the courage to stand up today. Lord who recognized that perhaps we're in a ditch. We're in a well, perhaps we
26 have Leaned on our own anxieties or worries too long. And Lord we need to draw. from The Well of Yeshua water from life With Water of Life I ask that you would wash over each of us here today Lord and those who are watching online. Lord that you would draw Us near to you but even as Yeshua took that moment in this chapter in
