0:00 We are continuing in this series on the book of Acts, in Acts chapter two. And, uh, I actually, I, I intended, and I forgot, um, to send a video to the media team to show you guys. Um, so stand by just a second. You guys, you ever wonder how how great the media team is? You're about to find out? Um, but we'll, we will play this video in a little bit. So I'll, I'll give you guys a few minutes to,
0:52 Nope. Okay, let me, we'll, I'll show you, I'll show you a video update from one of our ministry partners in a little bit. Um, he and I have been texting this week, uh, after we've been texting for the last week or two. Um, you know, it, I, I don't, I don't know how how much you guys realize, but, or maybe it affects you, maybe it doesn't, but it, like every, I don't, every now and then, it just seems to be almost crippling to where I'm just overwhelmed with, with grief for what,
1:40 what is being permitted. And I say that because the world has stood by for two months. Two months. Is it two months? We, at two months now, my goodness, more than two months. It's, uh, not only has the world stood by and, and at least if the world stood by and just didn't do anything, that would be, that, that might be okay. Um, but now the world is not just standing by and not doing anything, but they're actively, um, they're actively going against the release of the hostages. And, and why do I say it that way? Because, because that's what it is.
2:26 You can choose to fight for the hostages for the release, or you can choose to, not to, but the reality is, a little over two months ago, more than 200 people were taken hostage, innocent people, not just Jews, by the way, people from around the nations. Uh, in, in fact, if I remember, I think there must've been 40 or 50 Thai people who were taking hostage. And if I remember correctly, one of them was pregnant, nine months pregnant when she was taken. Again, nobody talks about this because it's not the approved narrative. And, and I, and I know some of you're gonna go, oh, he's getting into some conspiracy stuff.
3:14 Psalm chapter two says that the leaders and the kings and the rulers of the world conspire against God. So you call it what you want, but I will tell you when someone will stand up for any slight, but they won't. Oh, now let's, let's get political for just a moment. But they won't stand before Congress and say, calling for the genocide of the Jewish people is harassment. Bullying. I can't remember what the other word was.
4:00 What was it? Intimidation. Intimidation. Thank you. I knew there was another word in there. When you cannot call it what it is, Then your language usage has gone out the window. Because The reality is that's what's happening now, whether you listen for it or whether you see the acts that bring it about, I have been taught my entire life that hatred and violence toward all people
4:49 begins with the acceptance of hatred and violence toward Jewish people. In other words, whatever is permitted against the Jewish people is the canary in the coal mine. Well, I'm here to tell you, the canary is dead long ago that canary expired yelling at the top of its lungs, and nobody listened. You know, there was a famous pastor who said, uh, in, um, in World War ii, first they came for the Jews, then they came for the communists, then they came for the, the Catholics. The Presbyterians, da da da da da da went down the list, and then they came for me.
5:34 And there was nobody left to stand up for me. The reality is, now is the time to stand not a year from now. And I realize I'm, I'm kind of preaching in a, in a, in a, um, in a very welcome environment because most of y'all know all of this stuff. And, and I don't. May I, maybe it's true to assume that of those who watch online. Maybe it's not, I don't know that. But the things that the world has permitted against Israel,
6:21 horrific, terrifying. And none of it begins to describe it because we wouldn't even consider our letting our enemies go through that same thing. And, and again, I, I know that I, I've tried multiple times to liken what would it be like for us here in Texas if Oklahoma crossed our border and, and took ho Like nothing compares. There's nothing that we can think about that is the right comparison. But all you have to realize is that Israel exists and people hate Israel. And because people hate Israel, actions will be committed against Israel.
7:09 And because actions are committed against Israel and permitted actions will be committed against the Jewish people around the world, and it will be permitted. It has been nearly 80 years, 80 80, in between 80 and 85 years since we saw a climate relatively similar to this. The only difference back then was there was no state of Israel, the state of Israel today. Now, I I, let me just, let me just say all of this with the caveat, God is our rock and our redeemer and our place of refuge. I recognize that it, it is God who has been our protector
7:57 for 4,000 years. With that being said, The state of Israel today exists to protect the Jewish people that was part of its founding principles to prevent something else like this from happening again. And we come again to this place, a, a, a nebulous place. Do you guys have that video up, by the way? Oh, great. I talked long enough. I was going to put it off till the end of service. Anyways, all of that to say we have a ministry partner in Israel, I just wanna share with you, he, he went down on the first night of, um, of Hanukkah
8:47 to, to share the light of Messiah, but also to be there with, with, um, some of the soldiers on the front. And, uh, because whether or not we realize it, what Israelis see is presidents of Ivy League colleges can't condemn antisemitism. That's the headline that they see. Or they see, uh, Jews beaten up in the streets in Los Angeles, or nobody stands against anything. Nobody stands against anti-Jewish, anything in America. Those are the headlines that Israelis see. They don't often see the ones
9:34 where there was a Hanukah lighting at the courthouse in Sherman on the first night of Hanukkah, or the Hanukah lightings with the crowds that happened around the, they happened around the states, by the way. And, and if I remember right, I think we had in Dallas or in in the Metroplex, I think there were eight different candle lighting events on the first night of Hanukkah. And there will be events that happened throughout the week. If you want to go support one, go to one. Uh, I'll tell you if you want, if you're like, how do I find those? Google is your friend. Just type in Hanukkah, Hanukkah, menorah, lighting Dallas. And uh, I found a, I found an article in the Dallas Morning,
10:19 I think it was in the Dallas Morning News, and it was a free read because it was, they wanted people to go to these events and they had 'em like every event, that's until the next, over the next, are we on night three Now over the next five nights, um, I mean, at that point when I looked it up, it was over the whole eight nights. So you can go fo find all these events and you can go attend, because that's what people in Israel don't see. And so you wanna make, you want to encourage them and, and, and try to figure out how you can do that. So anyways, lemme just play this short video for you so you can see some encouraging words from what's going on with one of our partners. Oh, except you can't really see him. It's a all right. Like to take the thank you for the support,
11:04 for your significant support that you sent to us, uh, in order to help us to fight better and become better warriors in Israel. We like to say thank you so much. It's help us, it's meaningful for us. And again, thank you, different thank you fighting for you. Thank you. I I don't know if it was if it was audible to you or not, but basically they're saying thank you so much for your support. Um, it really means a lot, uh, to, to know that people are out there supporting us. And then they said at the end, if you, that, that was the easy one to, to, to decipher.
11:53 So anyways, it it, you, if you're not watching the news, alright, lemme rephrase. If you are watching the news and you only see the bad things, you, you need to really start watching different news because there are amazing things that are happening, miraculous events that are happening, miracles, signs, wonders, which is appropriate because that's what we're talking about here in x signs and wonders that are happening, that that show that our God still finds the time to insert himself into history, to make himself known, because it's history is not about us just living. All of this exists.
12:40 Everything that we look at exists for the purpose, the singular purpose of glorifying God. And if that purpose is not being accomplished, we need to figure out how it can be. And if we don't, at some point, God will insert himself into history and help us along. And, and sometimes those are, well, they're always wondrous. You remember, I don't know if you remember what I talked about last week in terms of the, the term wonder. They're always wondrous, but it depends on what side you fall as to whether they're great or they're terrible. So we, we are continuing in Acts chapter two.
13:25 I just, let me, let me re recap our discussion, uh, about Acts chapter two, the community of followers of Yeshua. They're gathered together for Shavuot. They're gathered in one place. Uh, and it seems like there's both men and women present, which, which places them in, uh, excludes them from particular areas within the temple, uh, complex. And where they are, uh, they, they, in, in Acts chapter two, verse 11, it says, the community was filled with the rah with the spirit and began to speak out concerning the glorious deeds of God. In other words, the, the, um, the ruach, the spirit of God enabled his followers to speak languages that they didn't know.
14:11 And then to be heard by this group that was, that was assembling this group. What we find out later in the text, um, that is at least a minimum of 3000, uh, in fact, maybe I should say a minimum of at least 3001, because there's the one who says, aren't they drunk? And then there's at least 3000 who end up accepting Yeshua. So there's at least 3001. Um, but I would presume that there's more. So there's at least 3000 that are in the, that are in the crowd that can hear what the disciples are speaking. And that group is from at least 15 different areas according to Acts chapter two. Uh, and so what it says is it says that they heard them in their birth language. It could be a birth dialect,
14:56 but it's at least a birth language. And why do I mention dialect? I said this last week because people in Texas speak a different language than people in Boston, though we are still from America. And those people, yeah. Anyways, you know what I mean? The people were amazed and perplexed and they're saying, what does this mean? And others say, oh, they're filled with, uh, sweet wine in, in other words, they're drunk. Well, I don't know about you, but I don't think alcohol has ever enabled me to speak a different language and be understood by other people. Uh, so anyways, to me, something else is going on. Peter responds to this inquiry
15:41 and says this, the inquiry being, what does it mean? And he responds and he says, this, what you're witnessing. So the, the, the, the pouring out of the, of tongues is what is what is qualified. And he begins to quote Joel chapter two or three, depending upon where you're, what, what, what text you're reading. He begins to quote Joel, and he says, this is the evidence that the end times are here. And we are witnessing the last of days because the spirit is being poured out upon, upon the people that you're witnessing. And all of you are witnessing the pouring outta the spirit because you can hear them speaking to you in your own tongue. So that's the evidence that he's using. And we discussed last week where they might be, uh,
16:30 one potential location. And I shared that location as, as potentially the southern steps gave some reasonings for it. One of which was when there's 3000 people who, uh, repent and come to come to the Lord, that they go into the, uh, into the mikvah or into the Mik vote and are immersed. Well, 3000 people was a lot of people and could take a lot of time except what I showed last week. 'cause there were some there in the, in near the southern steps, there were, uh, make vote just for this purpose of, of becoming ritually clean to come enter into the temple. So it would be easy actually, for the 3000 to go in. And, and I, and I mentioned that Chick-fil-A might've even been present
17:15 because they hadn't expressed lane, and they just went right through. And, uh, so anyways, there's the southern steps could be a potential location in that that will come back in our, in our talk in a little bit. So let me read before we get into the text, let me read the full text because it's important to hear it all in one hearing. Acts chapter two, starting in verse 12. And they were all amazed and perplexed saying to each other, what does this mean? Others poking fun. Were saying they are full of sweet new wine, but Peters standing with the 11, raise his voice and address them fellow judeans
18:01 and all who are staying in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and pay attention to my words. These men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it's only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel, and it shall be in the last days, says, God, that I will pour out my ruach on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your young men shall see visions. And your old men shall dream dreams even on my slaves, male and female. I will pour out my ruok in those days and they shall prophesy and I will give wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth beneath blood and fire, smokey vapor. The sun shall be turned to darkness in the moon to blood
18:49 before the great and glorious day of ot. NAI comes. And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of OT NAI shall be saved. Men of Israel hear these words, Yeshua han ti, a man authenticated to you by God with mighty deeds and wonders and signs, God performed through him in your midst. As you yourselves know, this Yeshua given over by God's predetermined plan. And for knowledge nailed to the cross by the hand of lawless men, you killed. But God raised him up, releasing him from the pains of death since it was impossible for him to be held by it. For David says about him, I saw Otai always
19:34 before me, for he is at my right hand so that I might night might not be shaken. Therefore, my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover, my body also will live in hope because you will not abandon my soul to s******e or let your holy one see decay. You have made known to me the past of life, you will fill me with joy in your presence. Brothers, I can confidently tell you that the patriarch di David died and was buried. His tomb is with us to this day. So because he was a prophet and knew God had sworn an oath with an oath to him, deceit one of his descendants on his throne, David saw beforehand and spoke of Messiah's return, that he was not abandoned
20:21 to Shaul and his body did not see decay. This Yeshua God raised up. We all are witnesses, therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God and receiving from the Father the promise of the AKA Kodesh, he poured out this what you now see and hear for David did not ascend into the heavens, yet he himself says, Otai said to my Lord, sit in my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. Therefore, let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made him this Yeshua whom you had crucified both Lord and Messiah.
21:06 Now, when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the emissaries, fellow brethren, what should we do? Peter said to them, repent and let each of you be immersed in the name of Messiah, Yeshua, for the removal of your sins. And you'll receive the gift of the Ruakaka kodesh for the promises for you and your children and for all who are far away, as many as Adonai, our God calls to himself with many other words. He warned them and kept urging them, save yourselves from this twisted generation. So those who received his message were immersed in that day, we're about 3000 in that day. About 3000 souls were added. This is the whole text that we're looking at, and
21:52 and I told you it's gonna take us a few weeks to break it down. And so today we're continuing with the verses 22 through 31. What's interesting is I actually had a bigger chunk and I realized I bit off too much. And so I had to shorten it for today. So I added those to next week. We'll see if I get through next week, but we, here we are in, in Acts chapter two, verse 22. And as a reminder, Peter has just finished quoting Joel where it says, uh, you shall be saved when you, uh, call upon the name of the Lord. Hold on, let me just, you had, you had made known to me, Nope. And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name
22:37 of Otai shall be saved. He pauses, if you remember, there's a, there's a, there's one more phrase in that, in that text in Joel, which will come back around in verse 39 next week, uh, where, where Peter will wrap up the quote, but he pauses here to talk for just a moment about calling on the name of the Lord. And he says, men of Israel hear these words very interesting because he stops and he begins, uh, to speak to everyone who's listening. And if you don't catch it at first, it's actually super subtle. In fact, I missed it the first time I read through it. He's alluding to the Shama, why Men
23:25 of Israel hear these words? What, what does that sound like? Hero Israel, the Lord is our God. The Lord is one. It is one of the most fundamental prayers that that establishes the foundation for all of Judaism, for all of the Jewish people. And then he says, in, in my text, in the TLV Yeshua, ti or Yeshua, your text may say The Nazarene or Yeshua from Nazareth. So let me just pause here for a minute, because it could be that what Peter's doing is trying to make sure you understand which Yeshua he's talking about. Why? Because Yeshua was not, uh, was not an uncommon name. There were plenty of people named that, uh, or,
24:13 or some variation thereof. And so just like you see with, um, with some of these, you find, you find there's nicknames. And the nicknames are often ironic. So like, if you watch the Chosen, there's Big James and Big James is Little, right? And then there's Little James, but Little James is big. Uh, but anyways, there's, there's, we, we make up, we make up monikers. This is just how we as people, uh, interact. We make up these, these titles or nicknames for people to help us distinguish them from someone else. And so it could be that what's happening here is that Peter is distinguishing Yeshua from another Yeshua. This Yeshua is from Nazareth.
25:00 It's not likely that there's going to be two Yeshua's from the small town as Nazareth. Now, there's another explanation that, that, that says this. It could be that what is being, this, what's happening here is that this could be a Messianic identifier. In other words, an identifier of the Messiah himself. Why? Because in Isaiah chapter 11, it says, then a shoot will come forth out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch will bear, uh, fruit out of his roots. The Ruach, the spirit of Otai will rest upon him. The spirit of wisdom and insight, the spirit of counsel, and Mike, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of otai. The word the branch, here is a word that is the utilization
25:47 of the word neter, which is sounds rather close to, to not Sarah, right? It, it's close enough that there can be some play on words going on, that there's this branch. And the branch is often a term that is recognized, uh, in Judaism as referring to the Messiah, the one who will come, the branch. So now it's interesting if Peter's utilizing this, he's saying, Yeshua, the branch is the one here. He was authenticated by God to the people with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs. Now we go, we have to go back to the Book of Luke to go and investigate all those, uh, wonders, deeds and signs.
26:33 But all those wonders, deeds and signs all tie in, which is what I did last week with Isaiah 61, uh, where, where the, the blind, uh, are given their sight. The captives are set free, the the lame can walk. Uh, I, I know I'm missing one in that quotation, uh, but I can't, I can't remember it right now. But it's interesting because all of the miracles that we see connect to that to prove as a proof that Yeshua is the Messiah. And then Peter comes on, continues on, he says this Yeshua. So now he said, Yeshua ti this Yeshua given over by God's predetermined plan
27:18 and foreknowledge nailed to the cross by the hand of lawless men, you killed. It's an interesting thing. We are now about 50 days post Passover post crucifixion. It could be that some of the crowd we're there, some of the, it could be that there's an overlap between the crowd from Luke 22 and the crowd here in Acts chapter two. It could be. And Peter says, you killed him. And he says, but he was nailed to the cross by lawless men. It's interesting. The lawless men here, by the way, refers
28:05 to the fact that he was nailed to the cross by people who didn't follow the Torah. In other words, they were without the Torah lawless That make sense? So that he was mail nailed to the cross by Roman soldiers. I'm gonna pause my message here for just a second because it's, it's a, it's pertinent to our society today. This text, along with plenty of other texts in the New Testament, have been misappropriated and misutilized for the purpose of persecuting the Jewish people. When Peter says you killed him, that phrase has now become a, an underlying tone. You killed the Messiah.
28:50 Or, or maybe you, maybe you know, this, this moniker, the Jewish people have often been referred to as Christ killers. It, it's, it's, the term is old. It's not new. And the sentiment has been, has been utilized to fuel hatred of the Jewish people for nearly 2000 years. Now, I'm telling you, that's not what Peter's doing. He's the purpose here is not for the purpose of, uh, of condemning all of the Jewish people. This statement is not for that purpose. And in fact, the, let, let me just go on a little bit more about the statement.
29:36 Christ killers, um, as as like, I, I can't tell you like it, like something in me, like It's just, I don't even know what to describe that. But when, when I hear the term Christ killers and, and, but it is like it just turns something inside me. And, um, but it's a term that's, that's not uncommon even in our society today. In fact, when you begin with that as your premise, then it's not too far to take the next step of, well, if you kill the Messiah, the we should kill you because he didn't deserve that.
30:23 You're right. Yeshua didn't deserve it. In fact, he's the only one in all of the history of humanity who has not deserved what he got. I mean, in terms of bad and in terms of a, a, an unjust reward, all of us deserve that, not him. But when this dehumanization begins, it justifies the subsequent dehumanization of the Jewish people. And when that occurs, then it ju begins to justify their murder.
31:08 The reasoning has not gone away in 2000 years. Why? Because I had a conversation on social media in the last two months, and it was, it just, it, it was almost to me like I, I, I couldn't believe what I was reading. And the person posted and said, well, Jesus was a Palestinian, and the Jews killed him. And I thought neither one of those statements are right. Actually, when you want to get technical, neither one of those state those statements are correct. Jesus was a Galilean
31:56 born in Bethlehem, which I guess could make him a judean. But regardless of all of that, he was a man of Israel, the house of Israel. And it wasn't the Jewish people who killed him. It was the Romans, if you want to go persecute somebody, go per persecute the inventors of pizza. No, we don't wanna, no, we don't wanna impersonate the adventures of pizza. That's a bad idea. It was the Romans, it wasn't the Jews. And even if it was the crowd of the Jewish people who said, yes, we'll take, we'll take baras over him, even if that did happen.
32:42 Yeshua said, what I give myself willingly, no one takes my life from me. He had the ability while he was there suffering to stop it all, but he didn't because there is a plan of redemption that God has set, as Peter talks about here. God has a predetermined plan and foreknowledge of the redemption that he is going to provide. And it required That Yeshua's sacrifice, why? For so many reasons.
33:29 One of which, hey, bud, one of which, and not the least of which is Yeshua's, choosing that path modeled for us, that our path, dude, what are you doing modeled for us that our path is not always a pleasant path. As much as God loves us and wants us to succeed and wants us to be blessed, the reality is we are to live our lives as miniature Yeshuas. It's the reason the term Christian came around.
34:17 Christian was a derogatory term, which just means little, little Christ. And, and, um, how about you go see mom, go see mom. Yeah. Come on, come here a monkey. Nope. Ah, he's got the tallest, Ah, Okay. Sorry, excuse me. As we get our family dynamics sorted out, um, we're supposed to live our lives like Yeshua. And if Yeshua had to undergo things that are inexpressible it, what it did is it modeled for us that we're gonna undergo problems, we're gonna undergo persecution.
35:02 It's not that God wants us to be persecuted, it's partially that through the persecution we develop perseverance. And through the perseverance we develop character. And through character is what God can then begin to use each one of us as a tool in sharing with others. You see, there's a famous quote, and I can't remember it because this is not in the path that my message was going, but I'm still gonna go down it. Um, there's a famous, uh, and it says, um, something like, your ministry can only be as big as what your character can support.
35:48 The unfortunate reality that we are witnessing in America, it seems to me today, is that there's a lot of ministries and their leaders character has not developed enough to support how large the ministry has gotten. And so we're beginning to see the toppling of pastors who are just, they can't, they can't bear the stress. And, and there are other things that are beginning to happen, why? It is not because they're bad people. It's because their character hasn't been strengthened enough to be, have a, a foundation strong enough to hold what it is that has been built. And so if we all say we want character, You know what that means?
36:35 Because character only comes through perseverance of persecution. It doesn't arrive when we have everything handed to us. Character comes when we undergo struggle and persecution, and we have to then dig real deep and find God and say, I don't know what's going on right now. We cry out to the Lord, some of us, uh, in view of others. And some of it's not, but we cry out from the depths of our soul. The Psalms talk about it. We cry out from the depths of our soul,
37:20 and it's in that place that God will begin to answer. But he's not gonna go, great, let me remove you from the trying circumstance. No, he's gonna go, you're doing great, and you're gonna go get me out. And he's gonna go, you're doing great. Come on. Little bit more. Why? Because if he, Liz, we just had this conversation with my children about, about, um, chickens when they hatch and, and if you, if you, if you begin to see the egg cracking and you open up the whole egg for them, the chicken's gonna die because they require
38:09 that challenge of building strength in order to begin to live. And it's the same thing with the development of our character. We require these little, uh, these little challenges of getting out of our eggshell To develop the strength to begin to walk, and then to begin to develop the strength to begin to fly. Okay, now I can get back to my message. Uh oh, great. This is a perfect flows right into this, this week's tour portion is about Joseph. You heard it, we heard, heard the kids talking about it earlier. Joseph is betrayed by his brothers. He's a favorite son of Jacob, his brothers, um,
38:59 uh, he has these dreams. And, and you can imagine if you're a brother and you have brothers, especially when you were 17, you can imagine when you're the youngest and, and you have this dream where all your brothers bow down to you, you can totally imagine. Hey guys, lemme tell you the dream God gave me. Like you can see how Joseph does what he does. We're introduced to this idea of rulership or kingship over his brothers, through his dreams, his brother's reactions. Ultimately, they lead to him, uh, being beat up, thrown in a pit, sold into slavery. Next week we read about him being called out of the pit and into the service of the king, the king
39:45 of the Pharaoh of Egypt. And ultimately we discover that Joseph will be the savior of Egypt and the savior of his people and the savior of the whole world. That's what the text talks about. He saves the entire world from severe famine. And Joseph acknowledges in the book of Genesis that he's not angry with his brothers. Why? Because it was the plan of God to bring, to provide salvation for the house of Israel from the fou, from, uh, from the severe famine through his own
40:31 rejection, persecution. And in fact, what would you can even call death and resurrection because he dies to the family. And when he's resurrected, he re to the family, he reveals himself. He re he says, he says, Ani Joseph, I'm Joseph, your brother, and they all look at him and go, uh, we're gonna talk about this again in, in two weeks. But they all look at him and go, you're an Egyptian. Like you even look like it. You're married to an Egyptian, you have Egyptian children. And he says, yeah, you just don't recognize me because he's been clad in the clothing of foreigners.
41:23 Joseph serves as a foreshadow of what would happen to Yeshua, our messiah. Yeshua was denied by his brothers, delivered to the Gentile world, became recognized as the savior of the Gentile world until the time that he chose to reveal himself to his brothers. That time is now, The Time has been for the last a hundred years and is growing quicker every day. The fact that Yeshua is revealing himself to his brothers, the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the people of Israel,
42:12 It follows the same arc that Joseph does. And Peter here in Acts chapter two, recognizes that this is the plan of God, the plan of God's redemption. And he actually concedes, uh, in the tonally in the text, he concedes that neither the leaders nor the people should be made to bear the full responsibility for Yeshua's death. And so we come to the next, to the next, uh, section of verses 25 through 28. And I'm gonna do again, what I did last week, because this is a quotation of Psalm 16. If you guys can pop up the verses side by side, we're gonna take a look just for a couple minutes of, of
42:58 what is different and what is the same and what could possibly be going on. So in Acts chapter two, verse 25, for David says about him, I saw Otai always before me, for he is at my right hand so that I might not be shaken. And you see in Psalm 16, eight, I have set otai always before me. Since he's at my right hand, I will not be shaken. They're basically the same. So we're gonna move on to the next verse. See, this is how quick, when we, when we find something the same, we can move on quickly, we move on to the next verse. Therefore, my heart was glad and my tongue rejoice. Moreover, my body will live in hope. But when you look at Psalm 16, it says, so my heart is glad and my soul rejoices. My body also rests secure. So we see two things here, um, that, that are,
43:47 that are, um, different, but it's in this context. I just wanna point out before I look at the differences, I wanna point out the context here is joy. That there's this, the plan of God contains joy within it. And that there's the differences. Here. We see a tongue, it says tongue, and Acts chapter two. But in Psalm 16, it says, my soul, it could be highlighting what is already occurring in Acts chapter two, the going out of the tongues, the the languages that have been heard. And this could just be Peter accentuating, look at these tongues, and this is the reason we should be rejoicing. And actually, uh, this, um,
44:33 this, uh, my body will live in hope versus resting secure. Actually, what Peter does is he directly quotes the tugen version of, of the Tav. And what's interesting is if my body also will live in hope, it could be an illusion or a, or a or a hint toward the resurrection that Yeshua, the resurrection is that's where we find our hope and our contentment and our joy. So let's go on to the next verse, verse 27, because you will not abandon my soul to shaul or let your holy one see decay. And in Psalm 16, we see, for you'll not abandon my soul to shaul, nor let your faithful ones see the pit again.
45:20 I, I, this is why I, I've been stressing the pit all morning. We see the emergence of the pit again here in Psalm 16. And I just, I, I, there's, there's a lot to going from the pit to everlasting life. And, and there could be a connection that's going on here in this context between death and decay, um, uh, in, in the context. Um, because when we die, the body begins to decay. But it says, your holy one, uh, won't see decay basically. In other words, if, if this, if the body dies and the soul leaves and goes to shaa, oh, but the body doesn't decay, then what happens in reality
46:10 is actually the resurrection of life. If it never begins to see decay, because it's now beginning to live again. So we move on to verse 28. Verse 28, you have made known to me the passive life. You'll fill me with joy in your presence. And we see in, in Psalm 16, you make known to me the path of life. Abundance of joys are in your presence. Eternal pleasures is your right hand. What we see is the exclusion of the final phrase. Now, I'm, I'm, I'm not going to answer the question why the exclusion? Um, other than it could be that Peter stops the, the passage just like he's done with Joel chapter two.
46:55 He stopped the passage because he wants to explain something. And then he's gonna wrap the passage up shortly thereafter. And, and, and what we'll see next week is that he wraps the passage up with another at your right hand. It just doesn't happen to be this verse of at your right hand. It's another verse, and we'll talk about that next week. But, um, so, so we continue on in verses uh, starting in verse 29. Brothers, I can confidently tell you that the patriarch David died and was buried, his tomb is with us to this day. So because he was a prophet and knew God had sworn in with an oath to him to see one of his descendants on his throne, David saw beforehand
47:41 and spoke of Messiah's resurrection, that he was not abandoned to shul, and his body did not see decay. So what we see is Peter is expounding a little bit on this Psalm 16 quote, which makes sense because he hasn't finished the Psalm 16 quote. He's gonna expound on it, and then he'll wrap it up next week. Well, he'll wrap it up at the same time, but next we're gonna talk about that next week. But Peter lays out this case that David was a prophet, and that David's writings clearly point toward a coming Messiah and not toward David himself. Thus David saw beforehand and spoke of the Messiah's resurrection, how David, he gets up there and he says, brothers,
48:26 I can confidently tell, you know, it is very interesting that Peter's so confident here. I mean, first of all, Peter's always been confident. So that's, that's not the interesting part. But he says, I can confidently tell you that it's, it's not David that he is talking about why? Because David died and was buried. And he says his tomb is with us to this day. It's interesting because if David, uh, you guys don't happen to have that Jerusalem, the temple layout slide from last week, do you? Alright, it's all right. If you, if you don't mind finding that popping up in a little bit, just tell me whenever you're ready. But it's interesting because last week we talked about, um,
49:12 Peter addressing this crowd and there's, there's a crowd of at least 3000 and, and we decided it could be that he's at the southern steps to, to the temple. And in that process, if he's there at the top of the southern steps, there would be room for 3000 to be gathered and to hear him. And if that's the case, oh yeah, perfect. If you guys can pop it up on the front one. Um, if that's the case, he's here, right, right where it says, hold a gate. And now I want to, I I'm, I'm, I'm making a couple propositions that both are are slightly shaky, so I want you to understand that. But if where we recognize David's tomb is today, if that's where it was then, which would've been within city limits,
50:02 uh, which is not permitted according to, to Jewish law, unless it's the king. So it, it could be that David was buried within city limits, but if that's the case, Peter's standing here at the top of the steps and, and if it, if the, if the burial of King David, the tomb of King David is exactly where it is today, it's about a thousand meters off to his right, uh, within eyesight. And so Peter could, could be standing there going, David is dead. There's his tomb, don't you see it? If his tomb is there and his body is decayed in there, then he's obviously not talking about himself.
50:48 He's obviously now looking forward to the coming Messiah. Thank you guys for, man, y'all are like, listen, y'all need to give our immediate team a hand because I think that's at least two or three things that I've thrown at them on the fly. And, and they're Johnny on the spot back there. Um, okay, they're about a thousand meters apart. Peter's saying King's King Davis body is undergone decay. It's not him. And he then lays out that David's a prophet, that he's pointing toward the coming Messiah, that David saw the resurrection of the Messiah beforehand,
51:36 and that the soul went down to s**t. Oh, but the body didn't decay, which then means that the actually experienced the resurrection of life. And therefore, this passage is speaking to the physical resurrection of the Messiah. And I'm gonna pause there and leave you hanging because, because that's what the text does. And we're gonna come back next week. But before I get into, before I want to, before, before we stop, I just want to say, so what does that mean for us? Because every week we should ask this question. When we're studying the Bible, what does it mean for us to, like, what do I do with that?
52:22 Uh, okay, I, I see Peter stood up on the top of the steps and said, David's dead over there. What does that help? How does that help me? Well, that may not help you, but the fact that Peter recognized that there's a plan of redemption, predetermined and foreordained by God himself, that helps you, but you have to acknowledge what the plan of redemption is. We can choose to join God and support his plan, or we can fight against him and lose. Those are the two options. There's not a third option in this case. There's either you choose God's redemption and you and you,
53:11 and you work with him, or you choose to fight against it tooth and nail until the day you die, and then you realize it was his plan of redemption. Those are our two options. If the plan, if there is a plan of redemption, and if Peter is correct, then the plan of redemption came to its fullest expression in the person of Yeshua, our Messiah, who experienced death and resurrection and ascended. And we're gonna talk about this next week because I'm, I'm getting slightly ahead of myself, but ascended to sit upon the throne at the right hand of the most high. If that's the plan, if that's the fullest expression.
53:57 But we also have to understand how it, how is that plan put into action in our world today? Well, that plan is put into our action, uh, in the world today through to the utilization Of the plan of redemption that God had from the beginning, which is, it starts with the Jewish people. He already made this plan, he cut a covenant thousands ago. And that covenant is the ongoing plan for world redemption. And it will continue to utilize the Jewish people, whether the world likes it or not. It's interesting because in Isaiah 49, 6, if you've been anywhere near Cheryl,
54:43 you know this scripture by heart. It is too small of, in fact, I wrote it down. I I didn't even actually copy from the biblical text. I copied Cheryl, it is too small of a thing for restoration to come only to the house of Israel. Rather, I will make you a light for the nation so that you will bring my salvation to the ends of the earth. So you see, there's the, there's the plan of redemption. This is in Isaiah 46, uh, 49. This is well before the time of Yeshua. The enemy wants to destroy the Jewish people because he hates the world. Do you realize that He doesn't just hate the Jewish people, he hates the world.
55:29 And the way to prevent the world from coming and experiencing the redemption of the Lord is to kill the Jewish people. He hates the world so much that he tries to exterminate the Jewish people because the Jewish people are supposed to be going out and teaching the world about the God of Israel, the Jewish people. Okay? That's, that's the setup. Here's, here's, here's the three problems. The Jewish people have to make a decision about what to do with j with Yeshua, there's only, there's only one decision to be made, and it's yes or no.
56:15 You go this way or you go that way. There's not an in-between Jewish people have to make the decision what to do with Yeshua. Will they recognize him as their long lost brother, their redeemer, their deliverer, their king, or will they only see the foreign looking man that bears the resemblance of the nations where they reside like Joseph did in Egypt? Number two, the body of Messiah will have to make a decision about where they stand with regard to the people of Israel. Will they recognize the people of Israel and their role in the established plan of God? Or will they continue to trample underfoot the very brothers
57:03 and sisters of their Messiah? And then number three, the nations of the earth will have to make a decision concerning the Messiah and the people of Israel. If they recognize neither then in the coming kingdom, their countries will be deprived of resources. You see that in Zechariah 14. So today you have a choice. You can choose to follow the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of Israel, and the plan of redemption that he has preordained and already established, or you can choose to assist the adversary in his attempts to derail the plan of God by denigrating
57:51 and attempting to destroy the Jewish people. Today, let me remind you, I I'm not, I like, I've, I've got a couple false endings here. Let me remind you of the words of the American author. Mark Twain E has made a marvelous flight, a fight in this world, in all the ages, and he has done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself and be excused for it. The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream stuff and passed away. The Greek and the Roman followed and made a ve and it made a vast noise.
58:36 And they are gone. Other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out. And they sit in twilight now or have vanished. The Jew saw them all beat them all and is now what he always was exhibiting. No decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal. But the Jew, all other forces pass. But he remains what is the secret of his immortality?
59:22 Why is this quote correct concerning the continued existence of the Jew? Because God cut a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their descendants, And then God renewed that covenant. Cut a new one, and Jeremiah chapter 31, and you think I'm gonna go to the cut of new covenant part, but I'm gonna fast forward past that because this is what he says. Thus says, Adonai who gives the sun as light by day in the fixed order of the moon and the stars as a light by night, who stirs up the sea. So it's waves, roar, aai, SVA is his name.
1:00:09 Only if this fixed order departs from before me pause, it is a declaration of aai. Then also might Israel's offsprings cease from being a nation before me for all time, thus says otai, only if heaven above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then also I will cast off the offspring of Israel for all that they have done. It is a declaration of otai. If you didn't catch it until the heavens and the earth depart, the Lord has preordained the Jewish people to be here.
1:00:58 So the immortality of the Jewish person is not because they're Jews, it's because of God. It's because God cut a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And subsequently there's multiple covenants, renewals. But because of all of that, the Jewish people remain. Why we don't just remain because we like to be a thorn in people's eyes or hands or feet or whatever. It's, we remain because God's plan of redemption is not yet accomplished and God's plan of redemption runs through the Jewish people.
1:01:45 So the world has two options. The body of Messiah has two options to choose to operate within the plan or to resist the plan for all that it's worth. There is no third option. Those are the two. Now, I don't mean to conflate the fact that the modern state of Israel, I don't want you to think that the modern, modern state of Israel is 100% run by God. They are people and they make mistakes. Again, I say this every week, there's a government there
1:02:35 and their government I trust just as much as every other government in the world, which by your laughter means that you also understand what I'm saying. Governments are just that until Yeshua sits upon the throne, that government we can trust. But until that point, all of us are fallible. But it doesn't mean the persecution and the denial of justice for the Jewish people. So a Venus Sha may our Father in heaven.
1:03:20 Lord, we thank you for this Shabbat. Lord, we thank you for this, uh, holiday, this, uh, holiday of Duka Lord I just, every year it serves as a reminder, Serves as a reminder Lord, that you continue to walk with us, that you continue to intervene, that you continue to preserve your plan of redemption for Israel and for the world. And Lord, I just ask today that you would begin to soften hearts both within the Jewish people, but also within the nations.
1:04:08 Lord, that you would draw all to you through Yeshua our Messiah. We bless you and praise you in Yeshua's name. Amen. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace
