0:00 We are continuing our Series in the Book of Luke today but before I do just want to share some. some family business share a story. I told you guys all I don't know. I think it's been a few months now must have been the summer. That in my family. We were starting to read particular children's series at night me and in my eldest. And we started that series and we're now in the last book. Of the series and it's called the last battle. The I already some of you know the series that I'm

0:46 talking about in this series. the primary figure that is prominent in every book. Is a lion that's named Aslan. Aslan is He's there at the creation of the world. And he's there at the very end. He is in the book by the author's terms the son of the emperor the lives across the sea. And in this book, we we get interactions. In this series I should say we get interactions between Aslan and and different characters that that appear in the series. Well, I'm in this final book now.

1:34 And the final I'll tell you I read these as a child and I'm now reading them as an adult. CS Lewis I think has got to be one of the the best authors. in my opinion of all time his the way he writes exercises and energizes the mind of the reader and he's particularly insightful toward where our culture is going. So in this book in this last battle book. it starts off and it seems like

2:23 like an asinine proposal There was a slight play on words there. Because there's a donkey. Who finds? the skin of a lion and he's with this ape and the ape tells him put the let's put the put the skin on you and we'll pretend that your Aslan and will tell everybody that you're Aslan. And then really the whole purpose for the ape is he wants more oranges and bananas. I mean if we get really down to the very simple nitty-gritty, he just wants more food. But in the end it's becomes a

3:09 power struggle. And there's this power struggle between God's of different lands. There's not really a struggle. If you if you've read the series, it just seems that way. The ape comes to this point where he's the mouth piece of Aslan and then he tells everybody I just want you to know. I'm not an ape. I'm a man. You I'm not an ape. I'm a man. Doesn't matter what I look like I'm a man and you all have to understand that and recognize that.

3:56 And then he continues on and he he brings in these enemies of of the country and and then they begin to tell the people that Aslan is also the same as the god of the other land. And so because of that they're going to rename him tashlane. Sorry, if you haven't read the book, I'm giving away parts of it. Because in reality one God is the same as all other gods from all other people's and they're all just the same. They just have different names. And so they come together and and they're Bowing in fear. Before a shack where they're told

4:41 Aslan is residing. I'm sorry tashlyn is residing. And the monkey, I'm sorry the eight I'm sorry the man. Is there telling everybody what to do for the purpose of getting some bananas? I mean it's utterly ridiculous. And at some point I don't want to give away the whole book, but it's because I'm not I still have a couple chapters left. But at some point it comes to light. That the donkey isn't really Aslan. the ape tells everybody that there's this donkey who's been dressing up as

5:27 Aslan, but the real Aslan is still. In the shack and he's still the mouthpiece. now at this point there's another group. Let's call them. I guess they would be called true narnians. and they're they're trying to Recruit others so that they can reveal. What is the truth behind this masquerade? And they come to this set of dwarves. And they say look this is this donkey. They have the donkey who is still kind of dresses as a lion. They say this donkey that that ape has been purporting that he's Aslan, but he's not.

6:13 and they say the dwarf say we don't care if he is or he isn't. We don't believe in him anymore. We are for ourselves. By the way, I just want to point out how many times have I said something in the last three and a half minutes? That sounds like something we hear today. Just in our society. the fact is the miss portrayal of Aslan the deception that is put on in front of everyone else. What it does is it integrates and

7:01 lessons the real Asm? To the point that people don't believe in him or beings don't believe in him anymore. Okay. I'm going to stop there and now I'm gonna transition to our series and we'll come back to that story in a few minutes. Because it has a purpose. We are in the Book of Luke. chapter 11 and we are starting a verse 37. We're going to finish chapter 11. Now I'm going to give you a fair warning. It is 1206. There is no way. That we will be out before 12:30. I'm just

7:47 giving you fair warning. Like get your seatbelts on because we're going to be here for a little bit. I didn't intend this but my notes are more much longer than they usually are. So we might be here quite a while. But before I get into this passage, let me just remind us. about Luke And the purpose of this of this book the authors is Luke himself the purpose we find in Luke 1 verses 3 through 4 Therefore your Excellency. This is Theophilus, by the way. Your Excellency since I've carefully investigated all these things from the beginning. It seemed good to me that I too should write you an accurate and ordered narrative.

8:36 So that or for the purpose so here this is where we get the purpose so that you might know how well-founded are the things about which you have been taught or you might know for sure. how true the things that you have been taught about Yeshua himself really are you know, it sounds to me like there's some tashulin going on. You know, like there's some deception that is that is being woven in and causing. Theophilus to question maybe it's trials. Maybe it's just people not representing Yeshua truly. What we see through the Book of Luke is the inbreaking of

9:24 the kingdom of heaven and that in Breaking is a two-fold operation. It's both the kingdom coming and the people returning to the king so you have you have a bottom up in a top down. And both have to come into alignment. The king returning and the people bringing their lives back into alignment with the King this chapter as a reminder. starts off with what we call the Lord's Prayer and I'm gonna do it. You don't have to you don't have to you don't have to repeat but our father. And your brain should just start going. May your name be kept holy. May your kingdom come give us this day the food. We need forgive our sins for

10:12 we too forgive everyone who is wrong to us and do not lead us into hard testing. It is through this prayer that Yeshua is teaching his disciples that we are citizens of the Kingdom bringing our lives into alignment with the coming King and it is also through this prayer that we can petition the hastening of the coming Kingdom. and now we come to this passage this week. starting in verse 37 as Yeshua spoke a Pharisee asked him to eat dinner with him. So he went in and took his place at the table.

10:58 And the Pharisee was surprised that he didn't Begin by doing nitty latte a dime before the meal. However, the Lord said to him now. Then you Pharisees you clean the outside of the cup and the plate but inside you are full of robbery and wickedness. Fools didn't the one who made the outside make the inside too. Rather as all give his alms what is inside and then everything will be clean for you? But woe to you Pharisees, you pay your tithes of mint and Rue in every Garden herb, but you ignored Justice in the love of God. You have an obligation to do these things, but without disregarding the others. Woe to you Pharisees because you love the best seat in the synagogues being greeted and being greeted differentially in the marketplaces woe to

11:45 you because you are unlike are like unmarked Graves which people walk over without knowing it. One of the experts in the Torah by the way, he's she was interrupted here. One of the experts in the tourist says Rabbi by saying these things you're insulting us, too. I just want to give a pointer don't interrupt tissue. Like probably not a good idea. Yeshua turns and says woe to you tour experts too you load the people down with burdens that they can hardly bear and you won't lift a finger to help them woe to you you build tombs and memory of the prophets but your father's murdered them. Thus you testify that you completely approve of what your father's did. They did the killing you do the building. Therefore the wisdom of God said I will send them prophets and emissaries. They will kill some persecute

12:31 others so that on this generation, we'll follow the responsibility for all the prophets blood that has been shed since the world was established from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who was killed between the Altar and the holy place. Yes. I tell you the responsibility for it all will fall on this generation. Woe to you Torah experts for you have taken away the key of knowledge. Not only did you yourselves not go in but you have stopped those who were trying to enter. as Yeshua left that place the Torah teachers. Apparently the meal didn't go well. The Torah teachers in the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly and to provoke him to express his views. On all sorts of subjects laying traps to

13:17 catch him in something. He might say That's a lot. And we're going to dig into this and now you see why we're going to be here for a while. But let's start with this first section. I'm going to I'm going to start with this first section versus 37 through 41. Yeshua is asked by a Pharisee to come and have a meal with him. It's interesting because the Greek word that's used here. It's the from the verb aristan indicates that it was probably a morning meal a breakfast or lunch not an evening meal. You know when I read this passage, I always think evening meals. but when I was digging into it and I saw that as I find that very interesting because the passage starts with what

14:03 The avenu prayer what we call the The Lord's Prayer, which is very reminiscent of the amidah. It's very thematically very very similar and the Ami does prayed three times a day in chakri in Minka in mahariv. And so I wonder If the passage in chapter 11 starts with chakrit with prayer, they're at a certain place a synagogue and they're praying. and then it moves onward and now we come to second breakfast or tea time Or lunch call it. Whatever you want. But I wonder if everything that is happening in

14:50 this whole chapter has happened in the course of a morning. from morning prayer until this mealtime You know because it's interesting. Yeshua talks about using a lamp. This was in the passage that was covered on Wednesday night yet. She would talk about using a lamp and letting the the light shine when you use a lamp in the morning early in the morning and late at night. Why because the sun's not out. I wonder if it's just something that's on hand and he is teaching about it. And so now yeshu is coming to eat lunch and perhaps he's gonna have a siesta afterward.

15:38 By the way, that was I would assume relatively common. It seems common in most agrarian societies In the Heat of the afternoon. You take some time off and you get in the shade and you. Have a little snore. or two and so now we're here brought into this Pharisees home. In fact Yeah, we're brought into this Pharisees home. and the Pharisee was surprised that he didn't see Yeshua do the ritual hand washing nity lot yadim. So what doesn't dime it's a rituals or a ceremonial hand washing.

16:25 That occurs before you eat in particular bread. So you wash your hands for real? Like you go to about if you say you go to the bathroom you go wash your hands for real. Then you come back and you wash your hands ceremonially and you in the water has to cover all of your hands. And then you don't you you try not to get interrupted between doing that. And saying the brachov for the bread. And so and then you eat and so you try to do all that pretty quickly so that you can eat. If you've sat through a Passover seder, you've basically done it if you've come to the table and wash your hands. And sometimes we do two hand Washings at the table and say

17:10 at Seder. But here's here's a here's a quote from Chabad. This may sound strange but before washing your hands be sure that they are clean. That's interesting. Before washing your hands wash your hands. Be sure that they are clean and free of anything that will obstruct The Waters from reaching the entire surface of your hands. This is a spiritual experience. You will recall you see so what's supposed to be happening is the exterior cleaning that is representative of what has already been done interiorly. Is that a word interiorly? Yeah. It's this is supposed to have already been done on the inside. It's in fact, it's representative of spiritually

17:58 what's happening. But then Yeshua says to him. You clean the outside of the cup and the plate and inside you're full of plunder and greed and wickedness. Didn't the one who make the outside make the inside also. In other words, you're exercising great attention and care to the cleaning of the outside but have forgotten what attention needs to be applied to the inside. Yeshua continued rather as all give us alms what's inside and then everything will be clean for you. This could be read differently. It could be red give his

18:46 alms. What is in or on your dishes? And everything will be clean for you. Meaning I wonder if he's if there's something going on. We're not told I wonder if there's something going on in the context of where they are and and what they're doing. where the the that person that Pharisee that's there is sees people who are in need and doesn't do anything. You see so Yeshua says give his alms what's on the inside or what's on your plate? Go give it to the person who's hungry that is so you can have inward righteousness with a brotherly Spirit and the outward. Becomes clean as a result of the

19:33 inward. In other words Yeshua is speaking concerning generosity that comes from within. And this is exactly what he was talking about in the previous passage that we covered on Wednesday night when it talks about a good eye versus a bad eye. A good eye is generous. This is an idiom a Hebrew idiom a good eye is generous meaning is always out willing to help others generous with others and a bad eye as a person who's stingy who doesn't go out and and doesn't isn't filled with generosity toward others. Take care. Yeshua says take care that your body is filled with generosity.

20:19 in order to care for those who are in need This is what he's stressing. What's going on be sympathetic have compassion. And so that's the setting the the meal setting for what's about to happen. So you see it's like here's the Anvil. And the hammer is about to come down. Now before he I just want to to note before we get into these Yeshua is addressing individuals and members or participants of a particular sect or group. He's not addressing all Jewish people. We're going to return to this in a little bit to have a further discussion, but I just want you to note that before we

21:05 get into this section. Because this section as as well as other sections throughout the the britkatasha have been misused and abused. For the purpose of denigrating Jewish people for the last 2,000 years. So Yeshua gets into this and he says but woe to you Pharisees, you pay your tithes of mint and Rue in every Garden herb of starting in verse 42, but you ignore Justice in the love of God. You have an obligation to do these things, but without disregarding the others Woe to your Pharisees because you love the best seat in the synagogues and being greeted differentially in the marketplaces. Woe to you because you are like unmarked Graves which people walk over without knowing it.

21:52 So there's three woes here that Yeshua. the Yeshua directs at the Pharisees you pay your tithes but ignore Justice and love you love the best seats and being greeted differentially. You are like unmarked Graves which people walk over without knowing so let's we're going to go into these one at a time. And talk about them. First of all Yeshua mentioned that the Pharisees paid their tithes of mint Roux and every Garden herb some of you perhaps have a different translation. Maybe it says cumin or something, or maybe that's maybe that's a Matthew Passage. But so before we pass this up, I just want to talk about what is tithing. Because our Torah portion this week also addresses tithing.

22:42 And that's found in Genesis 28 22. So, let me set up. Let me set up. The scenario for you. Jacob is fleeing from his brother. Jacob has done some some sleight of hand trickery moments. And has managed to win the birthright and the blessing of the firstborn son. and his brother Esau is angry and his brother Esau is filled with hate. Toward Jacob. and Jacob's mother says I think you should probably go see my brother. Probably is not a safe place for you to be here right now.

23:28 So she sends Jacob to go see Laban. And Jacob flees by the way, Jacob at this point has nothing. Perhaps he has a staff a cloak. But that's about it. And he flees and he comes to a certain place. And while he's there he takes a big Stone because he says this looks like a good Tempurpedic pillow. He comes to this place lays down with his nice Tempurpedic Stone. and falls asleep And it's there. Where there is revealed this latter. That connects Heaven and Earth.

24:14 And there's Angels going up and down and then he God. Is there standing yudhay? Is there standing next to him? and says By the way, I have a covenant with your father and with your grandfather and now I'm making the Covenant with you. Jacob wakes up I imagine. slightly terrified and he says Lord if this is if this is true. And you're going to bless me because the Lord says I'm going to bless you. You know, I do everything. He's reiterating Abraham and Isaac's blessings. I'm gonna bless you. I'm gonna bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you so on and so forth.

25:02 if this is true Jacob says if this is true. Of everything you give to me. This is in verse 22 of chapter 28 of everything you give to me. I will Faithfully return one tenth to you. So you see what we have here? 1/10 for you as a tithe, and and we actually we cover this also two weeks ago. I think it was two weeks ago in chapter 14 with with Abraham. Excuse me. Anybody running out yet?

25:47 in chapter 14 Abraham tived off of his increase and he gave it to melkite Melchizedek. And it was a tenth of everything that he had gotten. Sir, Kleenex, is there clinics in here? Excuse me for a second. I'm pretty sure that's a blow the trumpet in Zion moment. Yes, my family were very talented with the bullying of the horns. Let's see. We're coming back to tithing.

26:34 the tenth Belongs to the Lord, this is what Abraham says and it's what Jacob reiterates here. The tithing system gets a little bit more complicated. You can see it in Deuteronomy 14 and Numbers chapter 18 and Leviticus chapter 27 verse 30 and it says in Leviticus 27 says all the 10th given from the land whether they whether from the planted seed or fruit from the trees Belongs to the Lord Is Holy to the Lord. So my question is why does Yeshua mention mint Roux and herbs? first of all first of all, these would have been in such small

27:21 doses that it would have been difficult to tithe off of how many of you have gone bulk shopping at like Central Market or somewhere we can get mint. Or cumin and you're like, let me give you a tenth. Of this little bit that I got. Okay, here's three grains. Because I got 30. Okay, do you see what I'm talking about? It's it's difficult. It's little but you're getting into the very details, but also one commentator says that actually these wouldn't have been required ties because they weren't necessarily. A fruit from the land even though they're grown from the land, but this would have been an extra or above and

28:07 beyond to make sure that you cover the tent. I'm telling you that because what the Pharisees are doing are being meticulous. And I'm telling you this this is a positive not a negative. They want to make sure that they're not cheating God. From everything that he is blessed them. So they're getting into the grains. of cumin one dot two dots three dots they're getting into these little bitty pieces. but Yeshua isn't contesting that.

28:52 He's context contesting the fact that they are willing to do that and spend you imagine the amount of time that it takes to get a tenth. of these of these grains of these I mean of these herbs of these spices Imagine the time it takes to get a tenth of that and Yeshua says you spend all of this time on that and yet you forget. Justice and love and compassion for others you're willing to have this meticulous nature to get into these these the little itty bitty things when it comes to produce. But you're not willing to get into the little bitty dirty things when it comes to people.

29:38 She was says. You have an obligation to do both? And not neglecting one or the other. So now we come to the second. Whoa. You love the best seats and beating greeted differentialy. the best seats now Let me just tell you the best seats in my opinion. You can you can. Debate me on this but the best seats are those that are back there right in that section there. Because your number one in the back. And number two the air conditioning is strong in that section. And maybe it spills right over into this back section here. But to

30:25 me, those are the choice seats the ones in the back. Where you can move about without people noticing. But that's not the seats that he's talking about. We need to think of what what would come to mind in the in. I don't know maybe 30 or 40 years ago. It would have been more prominent when there would have been a seat or two. Right up here on the stage. That would have been in front. of everyone who had been the seat of Honor and in order to occupy the seed of Honor you would have had to have done all of these things meticulously. as a Pharisee you would have had to you would have had to abound it's not the right word. I'm looking for you would

31:12 have had to grown successfully and diced up your mint just perfectly and done all of these things to the letter to the little itty-bitty grain of cumin. In order to get into that seat. And that seat was a preferential seed because it was in front of everyone. You know, I've been in places of worship where that's that seat is occupied and I've even sat in one it is to me. I hate that seat. Like everybody's looking or at least you feel like everybody's looking at you the whole service. You can't even like cross your legs or uncross your legs or turn your Bible page without somebody noticing. It's the like I don't know. Maybe that's just me, but this would have been a preferential seat.

31:58 I see I would have I wouldn't have done so well in that time. But this is the the seats for the leading men of the congregation. You see but what Yeshua is not saying is you shouldn't be in that seat. Yeshua is saying your desire? Shouldn't be to be in that seat. And to be greeted differently when you're in the marketplace is because that desire that's a conceit a pride that Wells from within. you see when when pride is Welling within when your desire is to be in that seat thee that seat the outside is clean, but the

32:44 inside of the cup is not because your desire is to be there. To receive the recognition. We come to whoa number three. You are like unmarked Graves which people people walk over without knowing. Graves were marked, by the way. we started with ritual Purity the cleaning of the washing of hands and were coming back to Ritual Purity here because To come near a corpse the corpse would have defiled a person ritually speaking or ceremonially speaking to the point where they couldn't go offer sacrifices.

33:30 And so to to even walk over an unmarked grave would defile the person. Which is why you have at this time period whitewashed tombs. the whitewashed tomb would be would signal to everybody else that there's a tomb here. So if you don't want to become unclean don't walk near it. Will Yeshua says he's not even calling them whitewash. He says you're an unmarked tomb. It's the opposite if you will of what of what they are perceiving themselves to be. Let's make everything clean on the outside. The inside will deal with later. Whereas Yeshua says, you've made yourself presentable on the outside. But

34:17 inside it's all death and rot. It's dying and decaying. and death inside the outside appears as if it's nothing as if it's not as if it's a tomb it appears to be religiously observant. But on the inside they have neglected to clean the interior of their lives. This is generally known or referred to as legalism.

35:03 Let's be legalistic about the outside and the inside what nobody sees the inside except for me. And maybe my spouse. And in fact legalism has been generally attributed. to Judaism for the last 2,000 years When you hear legalism in the faith community, it's almost always connected with Jewish faith expression. Now I'm telling you. That this is categorically false. Legalism is not limited to Judaism. Legalism is a mental state where we

35:50 believe that we can check off this x number of boxes. to be in right relationship with God and if we do it all that way, we're fine. The legalistic mindset exists in every religious expression and it exists even outside of religion in our society. If I only do these things, I'll be fine. Can you imagine let me just take a take a moment here. Can you imagine if you are married? and you said If Only I take my shoes off at the door. And I wash the dishes and I feed the dog. My marriage will be fine.

36:38 That's a ridiculous notion. Sometimes you washed the dishes. Sometimes you make the dinner. Sometimes you'll leave your shoes. Sometimes you don't. Sometimes you feed the dog. Sometimes somebody else feeds the dog. Sometimes both of you feed the dog and the dog gets fat. You cannot build a relationship on checkboxes. If I only do these things. and what is If I can if I can say bear with me as I say this, I already recognize

37:26 it's not even going to come out correctly. What is religion if not building a relationship between us and God? If it's not building that relationship if it's all it is is checking boxes. That I'm gonna go ahead and stick you in the same category here put you in this box. You know some of us we like to have boxes open and closed and that's just the way we think. But Yeshua is pointing out and he's saying I'm not interested in checking your boxes. I'm interested in a relationship. That is a dynamic relationship. And it's the same thing that God tells us. And then yeshua's interrupted Yeshua sitting here

38:12 going. What were you what were you what were you and somebody over here goes Yeshua your insulting us, too. by the way Just don't interrupt Yeshua. Because you should then turns. And he goes, okay. Let's talk about you guys now. He comes he comes to the scribes and he's he gives three here. He says. What were you you load people down with burdens that they can hardly bear and you won't even lift a finger to help them. What were you you build tombs in memory of the prophets, but your father's murdered the prophets. What were you you have taken away the key of knowledge and not only did you not go in but you prevented others from entering. That was my paraphrase of those

38:57 verses. versus 45 through 52 So let's talk about these three woes. the first one Can be read of one of two ways. They are hypocrites asking others to do what they do not ask of themselves or they are heartless asking others to labor hard at spirituality while doing nothing to help those people accomplish the task and either case. It's not good. This rebuke is for a failure to show mercy and encourage others in their pursuit of God. Dr. Darrell box says this this person is quick to point the finger, but slow to lend to Helping Hand.

39:43 Let's put it in modern vernacular quick to point the finger, but slow to lend a helping hand. I would tell you to think about somebody that you might know but that's pointing the finger, so don't do that. Well, let's come to the second. Well woe to you you build tombs in memory of the prophets that your father's murdered. I want to make a note here. Yeshua says your father's because he says your fathers to this particular by the way. I just as a reminder I said in the beginning, but just as a reminder, this is a particular group and these are certain members of the particular group. So these are the scribes are Tor lawyers or tour teaches depend upon what you're translation says.

40:31 But he's not even talking to the whole group. He's talking to this particular element of that group. and he says your father's murdered them So I just want to say straight off. He cannot be talking about all Jewish people. Because if he is. He would have said our fathers. Not your father's because she was Jewish also. Then he talks he says he gives some irony here. He says you're building monuments. in memory of the prophets But the irony is you're doing it in memory of the Prophet but it also memorializes the horrendous acts that

41:19 occurred to them by your fathers this generation is like those who have gone before and they rejected the prophet sent by the Lord and not sought to hear and obey the word of God. This generation is growing in similarity because they have already rejected. Johannabeel John the Baptist John the immerser. John was declared by Yeshua to be the greatest of all the prophets in this generation has already rejected John. And now they're in the process of rejecting Yeshua. John describes Yeshua as one coming who is greater than I so if John is the greatest of all the prophets.

42:04 And Yeshua is greater than that. Then this generation is rejecting the two most important figures perhaps in Jewish history. And Yeshua follows it up and says the Incarnate wisdom of God is now being rejected. You know he he says. He talks about them rejecting the wisdom of God and his reminiscent of Jeremiah chapter 7 verses 25 and 26 where it says even though the Lord Sent His prophets the people would neither listen nor obey. And the prior verse in general and Jeremiah 7:24. The Lord says that he wants his people to pay attention to what he says in everything. He wants them to live according to the way that he has

42:50 ordered them. This sounds remarkably similar to what Yeshua says. In verse 28 rather blessed of those who hear the word of God and Obey it is what I talked about last week. whoa number three The key of knowledge has been taken away. Not only did you yourselves not go in but you have also stopped those who are trying to enter. Yeshua may be attempting to point at to some underlying issue of illiteracy in the culture. The scribes would have been would have been literate but

43:35 the general population might not have been they still it doesn't mean they wouldn't have known their scriptures, but they might not have had occasion to read the Scrolls day in and day out. just to it's their their population would not have been like us where we have 25 Bibles on our bookshelves and we can go choose which version we want to read and we can just sit down at any time in our nice comfortable rocking chair with our Tempurpedic Stone and and just and just read they were different at that point. They the general population would have had to hear it being read over and over and over. Perhaps the scribes have not been doing enough to teach the general population concerning the internal righteousness that

44:20 the Lord is seeking which is found throughout the Tanakh. by the way Dr. Darrell box says this the woes are a devastating critique talking. He's now I'm putting this in terms of all six of these here the woes are a devastating critique of Pride and self-assurance and religious practice. Amid concern for external righteousness the heart was neglected. Rules existed for everything except for how to relate honestly to God and to others. self-importance replaced humility and destruction replaced pursuit of God's will those remarks are strong because they show how deceived people can become if they do not rely humbly

45:06 upon the Lord. That's not limited to Jewish people, by the way. That's everyone. This idea of having pride and self-assurance that we can be comfortable because of the religious practice that we partake in. Or the external elements of righteousness if we focus on those, but neglect our heart. then it says if we have a clean Cup on the outside and a dirty Cup on the inside. Let me tell you a joke real quick. There was a pastor. Who had been pastoring this church for for quite some time? And he noticed this older couple.

45:53 They've been there the whole time that he had been coming and they always were a little bit. They appeared a little bit dirty. I don't know how else to say that they you know, their clothes kind of looked a little wrinkled and dirty and and that sort of thing and he always made it a point to go to everybody's house and visit and make home visit home calls and He was always a little bit nervous about going over to their house and eating a meal. So finally he just decides to do it. And he goes over to their house. The plates come out there.

46:40 There's food. But the plates look filthy. They look excuse me. I'm both on both choking and laughing at the same time. plates look filthy and he's looking at the plate going. Oh my goodness. What did I do? Why am I here? Do I really have to eat this and he just decides? It would be rude. To not eat the food. and so he eats the food and He's talking to the wife and he says. He's oh what kind of dishwasher do you have? And she says she's all.

47:28 My dishes there is they get as clean as soap and water can get them. And he's like, okay. Well, at least at least they try. So at the end of the meal. She gathers up to dishes and she goes to the back door and she goes here. So pure water. But do you see if you don't have a dish that's clean on the inside how difficult it is to enjoy the meal. It can be dirty on the outside. But if it's clean on the outside and dirty on the inside is real difficult to enjoy that meal that was cleaned by soap and water.

48:16 It's the inside that truly matters. And this is what Yeshua. Is trying to point out. She was trying. Repeatedly to get them to understand. Not that you ignore the outside. But did you if it's if the outside doesn't reflect or mirror what's on the inside then the outside is worthless being clean? As Yeshua left that place the Torah teachers and the Pharisees began to oppose him. bitterly and to provoke him to express his views on all sorts of

49:04 subjects laying traps to catch him in something. He might say it's interesting to me. I it's not until this point that Luke says that the Pharisees and the Torah teachers are the scribes. Begin to oppose him bitterly up until this point. It's just it's a what we would call a friendly family challenge. You know, it's critique within the family or within the group. But now Yeshua is calling them and noticing their their hypocrisy. And they begin to oppose him bitterly. This is the same verb that's used to describe the hatred

49:50 of herodias for yokanan John the immerser. In the final verse this language that is employed to lie into the lion Wade or laying traps and to catch are hunting terms. Yeshua is now being hunted. by his opposition up until this point it hasn't been that way but now something has turned. So what is Luke doing? Luke is showing how the opposition failed to heed yeshua's call to repentance, which is earlier in this chapter. And if we take that it starts in the morning with with chakri with morning prayers, and this is the lunchtime meal. We're talking about a course of about four hours.

50:36 That Yeshua has already said it's time to repent and they haven't they refuse to acknowledge it and Yeshua and Luke is pointing out that the opposition has failed to heed yeshua's call to repentance. and secondly Luke is revealing with piety does not look like the way to God is not in a piety of Pride and rules. without care and compassion So you think I might be done, but I'm not. Because now I have some noteworthy items that I want to talk about. Yeshua I've said this repeatedly, but I'm going to say it again. Yeshua is not condemning all Jews.

51:21 for all time in this text he's not even condemning all Pharisees and all scribes in this text. He's speaking to those who choose to live a hypocritical Lifestyle by preferring to present a particular image of themselves. When they have not even taken the time to investigate the inner parts of the glass. This text as I mentioned earlier along with other texts from the brick auto shop have repeatedly been used over the last couple thousand years as proof texts concerning God's perspective on the Jewish people. They've been used as proof text concerning yeshua's perspective on the Jewish people and even the church is perspective

52:08 on the Jewish people. These perverse perceptions of the Jewish people have led to ridiculous points of view Even in our society today. It's like the Donkey. Who presents himself as Aslan a lion? It's a False Image. In fact, it's it's not even an it's not even. How do I even describe it? Well, let's go with my let's go with my notes. It's a ridiculous point of view. They come out in our society today.

52:57 There are views that cause a person. Who would have been exterminated by Hitler himself to come out and say I like Hitler? If you don't know the article the news yet is probably not even worth looking up. I watched. I don't know about you guys. Have you ever had a moment where you've watched an hour of a program? And you literally felt Dumber. I made that mistake this week and I watched an hour of a program and I I literally walked away and I came and talked to my mom and my dad and I said I feel dumber than

53:45 when I went in. And I don't even know how that's possible. Like at least I could ignore it, but I just felt Dumber. Dumber is a word, right? Yeah, Dumb and Dumber. That's a But this person didn't stop there and talking about Hitler and his approval of Hitler. He then compared prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to being a Nazi. Which is odd because he literally just said that he was a fan of Nazis, but despise Benjamin Netanyahu. So the logic doesn't make sense.

54:32 You see I want to point out that anti-Semitism is illogical. Anti-Semitism says Jews are so powerful that they rule the world but I as an individual can stomp them out. Which if Jews are so powerful that they can run the world. It's impossible for an individual to stomp them out ever thought about that. It's impossible. And this isn't a new view. In fact, we see it. I think it's in last week's Torah portion. When Isaac goes down to Gerard. And he comes down there and he's so prosperous. In a year of famine that all of them say you're so

55:19 prosperous. That that we're afraid of you. So we're gonna we're gonna punish you and we're gonna exercise dominion over you and kick you out. Again, it's illogical. It doesn't make sense. The same is true today. When there is evil and wicked that's now able to be broadcast to 25 to 30 million people in a single moment. And then re-transmitted around the globe. The lies that have been told about the Jewish people are growing and become more malignant every day.

56:08 There are some. In fact the program that I watched. for an hour all three Claimed to be Christians. There are some who claim to be Christians and hold this View. today I I it it escapes my mental understanding my mental ability to understand how someone can come to that conclusion. But I want to read to you a song. because the reality is

56:55 it's not going to stop. These people feel compelled. to spread their hatred of the Jewish people to everyone else these people who dress up. as followers of Jesus and claim to be Christians. Are like the Donkey? Who put on? the Lion's skin and pretended to be Aslan. What they do is they hurt. the ability for others to follow Yeshua period

57:40 because they are preventing they are presenting. an appearance of Christianity and of Jesus That is simply not true. Why are the nations in an uproar? and the peoples Mudder vanity the kings of the earth set themselves up and rulers conspired together against the Lord and against his anointed one. You see there are conspiracy theories. The kings of the earth and the rulers are conspiring together against the Lord. That's a conspiracy.

58:27 Let's rip their chains apart and throw their ropes off. That's what they say. And he who sits in heaven. Laughs the Lord mocks them so he will speak to them in his anger and terrify them in his Fury. I have set my king upon Zion my Holy Mountain. I will declare the decree of Adonai. He said to me you are my son today. I have become your father ask me and I will give the Nations as your inheritance and the far reaches of the earth is your possession you shall break the nations with an iron scepter. You shall Dash them

59:14 in pieces like a Potter's jar. So now o Kings be wise. Take warning. Oh judges of the Earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the son lest he become angry and you perish along your way since his wrath May flare up Suddenly. Happy as everyone taking refuge in him. the rulers of the earth and the Kings Are beginning to conspire.

1:00:00 and it's interesting because the outward expression of their conspiracy is that Jews are conspiring to rule the world? Some of them come underneath the banner. or self-proclaimed to be followers of Jesus and promote the hatred of the Jewish people the denial of the Holocaust and everything that you can possibly imagine

1:00:47 and other rulers and former rulers continue to meet with them. And to give them audience. I can't do anything about that. But you know Yeshua tells me that I can do. As Yeshua tells me and all of us. That we can pray for our enemies. those who are out to harm us Yeshua says in this chapter and I covered this last week. Yeshua says in this chapter those who are not for

1:01:33 me are against me and those who do not gather with me are scattering. So you better believe that there is some scattering and some Gathering that is going on today. Be sure to know. Which one of those you are? And to pray for those who appear to be your enemies. Let us live a lifestyle where the outside what is seen by others is representative of what is on the inside. Let us not live hypocritical Lifestyles which detract or prevent others from coming to Faith? in Yeshua our Messiah

1:02:20 you see one of these Commandments one of the top 10 Is don't take the name of the Lord your God in vain? We've always held that it means one thing. but I believe that it also means don't lessen the value of God's name. And when we Proclaim to be Christians and hate the Jewish people. That is lessening the value of God's name. Actually, that is a direct violation. of the Ten Commandments so let us

1:03:06 in our attempt in the reality is let me release you from this mental obligation. The reality is every single one of us will fail. But it doesn't mean you don't try. Don't become overcome with. This idea. Wow, I just realized it's one o'clock. Okay, I need to finish live a lifestyle. where the outside reflects the inside and where you do not lessen the name or the value of the name of God in your life. avinashabasha, Mayim Our Father in heaven Lord I Thank you for Yeshua in his words

1:03:53 the continually exhort us to check ourselves before we measure the log in our brother's eye. So Lord, I ask that you would open our eyes to ourselves to each one of us Lord that you would reveal to us. What part of the interior of our cup is dirty? Lord perhaps we've been focusing on cleaning the exterior the Lord I ask that you would reveal on the interior what it is that needs to be cleaned what Pride what can seat what needs to be removed from our cups? Oh Lord. And in the same breath I ask that you would.

1:04:40 rebuke those Who are defaming the name of Yeshua today? But I ask that you would. Not allow their voices to be promoted. but Lord that the name of Yeshua would be promoted above all others. Lord we bless you and we praise you and yeshua's name. amen May the Lord bless you and keep you may the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

1:05:30 if I recognize my Wrath are you here? I don't know valekah movie. conomics Hello. Be sure in the name of our Messiah Yeshua shabbat shalom.
