He got Turkey on all of these people who I, I don't have any of us ever seen them all in agreement before. Like, I don't even think that's real,

4:45 Today I wanna share a topic with you that the Lord is placed on my heart. The topic for this message came to me sometime in the beginning of August. It was before the message I shared on faith. I was driving in my car and remember praying, what should I speak about? In October, the single word love came to my mind. I felt it was from the Lord. I accepted that, put it in the back of my mind as the message was a long way off and I really didn't know how to deal with it at that time. A couple of weeks or so, after sharing the message on faith, I realized I needed to start working on this message. I still felt the topic should be love. I thought I don't have a clue how to speak about love

5:32 and I don't even think that I want to speak about this topic. The topic of love is beautiful. It's encouraging, it's challenging. However, the command to love is very present in scripture and very convicting. It points out some shortfalls in the way I behave. I ask myself, am I really being loving in various situations I frequently find I fail the test so much for my struggle. I asked the Lord how to proceed. I felt He told me he would guide me. I then started looking up verses on love and trying to categorize them into themes that would be helpful for us and for myself.

6:18 The result is this message. Some of you may want to let me know if it has been helpful to you or not. We live in a world where love is often misused to tug at people's hearts and get them to do things that are not right. There are causes that the world emphasizes at different times. I sometimes refer to them as causes of the day. If you don't agree with those causes, you're considered to be uncaring, unloving, and even hateful. A lot of those causes have the effect of polarizing our society. Some causes are good, some are bad. How do we know where to stand? I try to look at the word of God to help me sort through it. If we don't agree with the cause because of our biblical convictions,

7:03 how should we treat others that are entrenched in a cause where we cannot agree? I think most of us here today stand for Israel. However, if you stand for Israel or love Israel, some think you must hate the Palestinian people. Just standing for Israel seems to cause a response of hatred in some people. We live in an upside down world where being loving is sometimes regarded as being hateful. Real love can compel us to share things that others may not like. Speaking the word in love can sometimes be met with tremendous opposition. I think about Charlie Kirk being assassinated. I think he was murdered and his death celebrated by some

7:51 because he spoke about things that some people did not want to hear. His speaking was interpreted as being hateful as he challenged ideologies. We live in a world where hate is manifesting increasingly. Last Sunday, a man drove his vehicle into a Mormon church, shot and killed people and set the building on fire. The report said he hated Mormons. While I don't agree with the Mormon religion, they're valuable people with lives and families. This past Thursday on Yom Kippur, a man in Manchester, England drove his vehicle into pedestrians at the Heaton Park Hebrew congregation getting out of his car and stabbing anyone near him. Two people were killed and at least three injured. One of those killed was protecting the door to keep the

8:39 the um perpetrator out. He was accidentally killed by police. I saw a report this morning that the father of the terrorist praised Hamas for the October 7th slaughter. It seems likely that the terrorist hated Jewish people. I think true love, God's love or God's kind of love is needed to help us navigate through this messed up world. So let's move on to the message and see what the word says about love and how we might apply it to our lives. From a human perspective, the use the word love in English ranges from a strong liking

9:28 to a commitment, or one would be willing to die or for an individual or God. I love ice cream. I love the cowboys. I love my wife or my husband. I love my family. I love my fellow believers. I love my friend. I love God. There's a Hasidic parable about a fisherman, a large pike in the baron. A well-known Hasidic parable relates the story of a fisherman who once caught a pike and exclaimed. This will be for the baron. The baron loves pike. The pike was extremely relieved to hear this because he had been afraid his life was about to end. The fisherman then brought the pike to the Baron's head Chef

10:14 who looked at the pike and exclaimed, the baron will be so excited he loves pike. This brought even greater relief to the fish along with a surge of anticipation to meet his apparent admirer. However, as soon as the chef brought him into the kitchen and lifted a giant knife to chop the fish into pieces, the pike finally realized The baron doesn't love pike at all. He only loves himself and how I make him feel, wow. Ouch. With that, right? So do we love something or someone because they make us feel good? Or do we really love seeking the good for God and others? Some Hebrew words that are in the Bible translated as love a haba to give the general word used for love.

Hassad has said, sorry, loving and kindness, loyalty, mercy, steadfast love, covenant relationship, Rahim, compassion, mercy, tender love, dot beloved romantic or familial love. Some Greek words translated as love, agape, unconditional or self-sacrificial. Love and philia, brotherly or friendship. Love from the song of Solomon, set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm. For love is as strong as death. Jealousy is as fierce as the grave.

11:50 It flashes are flashes of fire. The very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love. Neither can floods drown it. If a man offered love for all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised. So we see it's as strong as death. Many waters can't quench it. So real love can't be put put out. One Corinthians one Corinthians 13 gives a good definition of definition of what love is and what love isn't. It's patient, it's kind. It doesn't envy or boast. It's not arrogant or rude. It doesn't insist on its own way. It's not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

12:35 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things endures all things. Love never ends. Alright, today we're gonna talk about what love is and what it's not. We need to understand it if we're gonna have it be effective in our lives. There's lots of verses related to the requirement to love. They're pretty heavy verses. I think some of those are probably why I struggled with preparing this message. But there's a clear requirement to love. Why does love matter? I'll tell you now in a short sentence or two. If we look at what uh, Yeshua said, the two greatest commandments were to love the Lord our God

13:21 with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourself. If we could do those, that pretty much fulfills everything. So then I wanna talk about how God has expressed his love to us by the things that he's done. I mean, namely Yeshua paying the price for us on the tree, but also how God's imparted his love into us. He's poured his love into us. So it's not only looking at what he's done but what he's done. Doing something, something in us that we can actually, that will actually make a difference in us. And then abiding in God's love and loving with the love that God provides. Alright, love is patient. What does that mean?

14:08 Bearing or enduring pain. Provocation. Annoyance with calmness and understanding, being kind, sympathetic helpful, rejoices with the truth. Love aligns with the truth. The word of God is the reference for truth. The endorsement of something by an individual, by society or even the government, does not make it truth. Conversely, the condemnation of something by an individual society or even the government, does not make it false. So love aligns with the truth In this crazy world,

14:56 with all kinds of things going on, how do we know what? What Truth is the word of God. It bears all things. It continues to love in spite of flaws or weaknesses. It believes all things. It has a trusting and hopeful nature that does not mean to be gullible or to accept anything anyone says or any belief system that others may sincerely hold, but rather to maintain faith in others and their potential despite challenges or doubts. So a trusting and hopeful nature and remain maintain faith in others and their potential despite challenges or doubts. So it's not gullible, it doesn't just believe anything.

15:44 Hope saw things. It continues to believe that God can redeem an individual or a situation. It endures all things. It continues to love in spite of difficult circumstances. And it never ends. It's not bitter, hateful, spiteful, unsympathetic or belligerent. And it does not rejoice at wrongdoing or injustice and wrongdoing or injustice must be defined by God's word as opposed to the world's definition. So be careful where you place your love. We're told to love our neighbors, the sojourner, the brothers, and even our enemies. Love people in spite of what they do or their ideologies.

17:23 Be careful not to love or accept actions or ideologies because of the people you love or because of societal pressure. The word of God needs to be used to test and define what we hold to be true. Said another way. Do not love the world or the things of the in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh, desires of the eyes and the pride in possessions is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. So we're required to love above all,

You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. You know, it's easy to pray for the people we like and we love. What about our enemies? You know one thing I was sharing with Sean and Marcus the other day, and I think Sean, what? I can't remember what you asked me about something that aggravated me or made it difficult to love. And I said, I don't like being cut off when I'm on the road anyway. So we could do one thing, we could pray fire down from heaven, right?

20:26 Or what could we do? We could pray the best for that particular individual, right? But we don't know what's going on in their lives or whatever. But anyway, that's not persecution so much. But we need to pray even for those that persecute us, so that you may be sons of your father who is in heaven for he makes his son rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust for if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same as the Father has loved me. So I have loved you, abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love just as I have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you and your joy may be full.

21:12 This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down his life for his friends almost thinking about veering off and sharing something a little different than I was planning. So Yeshua is the true V. So I've always thought of it. I mean, I know what the parable means. It means stay connected to Yeshua if you want to have his life flowing into you. But then, then that sounds like, okay, I don't really have to do any of, I just gotta stay connected. But then there comes at the end of that, this command to love. So how can I just have to be connected, but I'm supposed to love too? It's an interesting tension between the two. But the life comes from Yeshua.

21:58 But he wants us to love and we're gonna love or we need to love with the love he provides. So greater love has no one than this, that he's someone laid down his life for his friends. Alright, we're required to walk in love, keep loving one another earnestly. If we love God, we must also love our brother. We're supposed to lay down our lives for our brothers and even love our enemies. So I mentioned this before, but why does love matter? I think of Rabbi Marty when I share these verses, and I'll share that in a minute. But when the Pharisees heard that he has silenced the sodic, they gathered together and one of them, a lawyer asked him a question to test him.

22:43 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law. And he said to him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself on these two commandments. Depend all the law and the prophets. And Rabbi Marty would share a number of times that you know, someone comes into the Messianic movement and they're super enthusiastic and it's like, what? What? What's, what kind of things do I need to do? And he would tell him, okay, you need to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and then love your neighbor as yourself. And when you get those two down, come back and I'll give you some more. So, so if we, if, if we love the Lord our God with our heart, soul, and mind

23:30 and our neighbor as ourself, I think we'd get along a whole bunch better. All these crazy things wouldn't be going on in the world, right? So said another way from Romans, oh no one, anything except to love each other. For the one who loves another has fulfilled the law for the commandments. You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder you shall not steal, you shall not covet and any other commandment are summed up in this word. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. So again, we love our neighbors. We're not gonna wanna cheat or steal from them and generally kind of do what's what's right. Alright, let's switch gears a little bit

24:17 and look how God has expressed his love to us. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. But God demonstrates his own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Messiah died for us. And see what kind of love the Father has given us, that we should be called the children of God. And so we are so this great love expressed for us by Messiah, giving up his life for us, that we could be made righteous and even called his children in this, the love of God was man made manifest among us. That God sent his only son into the world so

25:02 that we might live through him in this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son to be a propitiation for our sins. Makes us right with God. The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. But God was rich in mercy because of his great love, which he loved us even when we were dead in our trespasses. He made us alive together with Messiah by grace. You have been saved. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom of koine to his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever and ever. 26:36 and he's made us a kingdom of priests. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Humble yourselves, therefore under the mighty hand of God, that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him because he cares for you. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding and steadfast love.

27:22 This is interesting. This uh, parable came to me in preparing this message and what stood out to me was what Yeshua said, that one who is forgiven, little loves little, and one who is forgiven, much loves much. And you could imply that some of us have done really super bad things and some of us may be not so bad things. So one forgiven about doing greatly bad things might love more and one with lesser might love a little less. But maybe it could also have to do with how we might perceive what he's done for us. Does it really, do we, you know, maybe those of us

28:07 that have been saved a long time, do we maybe forget the magnitude of what he's done for us forgiving our sins? So re maybe remembering that can have a profound effect on the love that we have for God and for others. So a certain money lender had two debtors, one owned, 501 owed, 500 de, and the other 50 when they could not pay, he canceled the debt of both. Now, which of them will love more? Simon answered the one I suppose, whom from whom he canceled the larger debt. And he said to him, you have judged rightly. Now, I don't know, I'm assuming everybody feels that to some extent, when I first got saved, I got, I dunno if I felt the universal forgiveness, I just believed in that. But there was one particular thing that would cause tremendous guilt. And at that moment it was just like, boom, that that thing was forgiven and just gone. So I think he does both. We sometimes just gotta believe we're forgiven. But sometimes he just, you know, is just there and you and you just, you just know it in your, in your spirit. So any of you that might be struggling

29:40 with some guilt about something, the Lord can just put his forgiveness on you. And maybe you need somebody to, to pray with you. So recognizing and meditating on how God has expressed his love to us can have a motivational effect on how we love God and love others. So that's just kind of thinking about the things he's done for us. So he gave his only son, he calls us his children. Messiah died for us while we were still sinners. He's freed us from our sins. He's made us a kingdom of coen, of kingdom, of priests. And he's made us alive in Messiah, Yeshua.

30:27 Now let's look at a different aspect of it. God's love imparted to us, or maybe you could say poured into us. But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control against such things. There is no law. So we see that love is a fruit of God's spirit in us, of the roha Kadesh in us. Love is just a natural thing. And we know we have passed out of death into life because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. So I think just inherently when we accept Messiah, Yeshua, God's love is poured into us and some of that's just gonna come out okay.

31:14 Some of that naturally is just gonna flow out just because we're his and we have his love in us. Therefore, having been made righteous by trusting we have shalom with God through our Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, through him we also have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand and boast in the hope of God's glory. And not only that, but we also boast in suffering. Knowing that suffering produces perseverance. Perseverance. Character. Character hope. And hope does not disappoint because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Ru Kde who has given to us. So we see here his love has poured into us. So it's not only understanding what he's done, but there's something supernatural here

32:01 where God's love is actually poured into us. But in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved this for I'm convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers nor height, nor depth nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Messiah, Yeshua, our Lord. So love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. There's an inherent love that becomes part of those who have trusted in the Messiah. God's love has been poured into our hearts and nothing, nothing can separate us from his love.

32:51 Ask a couple questions. Does God's love being imparted to us or poured into us, make a difference in how we live? So does his love just inherently being poured in there make a difference? I think yes, love is a fruit of his spirit living in us. Do we need to do anything with the love that God has poured into us or imparted to us? I think yes, again, we need to abide in God's love and then to love with the love God has poured into us or the love God has provided for this reason. I remind you to fan and to flame the gift of God, which is in you

33:37 through the laying out of my hands for God gave us a spirit, not of fear, but of power and love and self-control. So here we're exhorted to fan into flame the gift that he's given us. So that must mean that we gotta do something. What's the verse that says a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. Um, anyway, but we're to fan into flame that gift. Let's hear a couple things. Now they may be, I may have planned them for later, but I think of two analogies with, with this love, with what we're supposed to do with this love. The first would be exercise. Now it's been a long time since I worked out in a gym, but I remember doing that

34:23 and I really, when I did, I'd love to bench press if you can believe that or not. I can't remember what I, what I built up to, but you know, you, you'd work out one day, did it like, I think like every three days I was in there. But you know, the first day you're really working out. And then I don't remember being so sore the next day, but it was the day after that, you know, really feel the soreness and but then you know, you get the, and you, you'd build up in weight. You could do more. The more you exercise, the more weight you could lift. That's what I found. So what if love, what if the love that's been poured into us is somewhat like a muscle? What if there's a little bit and if we use it, we're gonna get some more or it's gonna get stronger And if we, we use that and it's gonna get stronger.

35:08 And if we use that, I also was reminded of the parable of the talents. You know, one guy got one another one got a couple depending on which, which version of the, which version of the story. But the one who basically they used the talents and they got more, right? So I think we need to use the love and we'll get more love and it'll become easier to use or easier to love. So we need to fan and to flame the gift of God as the father has loved me. So I have loved you abide in my love. We love because he first loved us.

35:54 I pray from his glorious riches that he would grant you to be strengthened in your inner being with power through his ruach. So that Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you being rooted and grounded in love may have strength to grasp with all the keto she what is the width and length and height and depth. And to know the love of Messiah, which your passes knowledge so that you may be filled up with all the fullness of God. I think of Don fto when I think of that verse. I think that was his, was that his theme verse or something that he really prayed That people could understand God's love and that it would make a difference. So somehow understanding this great love and fanning into flame, this love is gonna make a difference

36:39 put on them as God's chosen one's, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience bearing with one another. And if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other as the Lord has forgiven you. So you also must forgive. And above all these put on love which binds everything together in perfect harmony. So the admonition to put this love on, like it's a thing that we put on, like it's something we wear or it's something inside of us In this, the love of God was made manifest among us that God sent his only son into the world so that we might live through him in this is love. Not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought

37:26 to love one another. No one has ever seen God if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. So again, getting at the idea that using the love perfects the love. Using the love makes the love stronger. For through the law, I died to the law so that I might live for God. I've been crucified with Messiah and it's no longer I who live but Messiah who lives in me and the life I now live in. The body I've lived by trusting and Ben Elohim who loved me and gave himself up for me. So here the concept of considering ourselves dead and alive in Messiah and letting his love flow through us.

38:17 Therefore, be imitators of God has dearly loved children and walk in love just as Messiah also loved us and gave himself up for us as an offering and sacrifice to God for a frequent aroma. So be imitators of God, remember what he did, but also walk in love that he's provided. So abide in God's love. Pray for others and yourself that we would have power to understand the love that God has provided fan. And to flame the gift that that God has given you. Exercise the love that God has imparted to you. Put on love, walk in love.

39:06 So we looked at what love is and what love isn't the requirement to love. Why love matters. 'cause if we really love, we pretty much fulfill or we fulfill everything. How God expressed his love to us and imparted his love to us. So again, the expression, thinking about what Messiah has done, recognizing the great sacrifice that he's made for us and how that, uh, how that affects us. But also realizing that he's poured love into our hearts and some of that's just gonna come out and some of it we need to, uh, use so that more comes out that we need to use

39:52 so that more comes out. So then a God abiding in God's love and then loving with the love that he pours into us. So the things that we do should be done in love. One Corinthians 1614, let all that you do be done in love. If I speak in the tongues of man and of angels, but have not love, I'm a noisy gong or a clanging symbol. And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but have love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have and if I deliver my body to be burned but have love, I gain nothing. So we can do all kinds of stuff. It's interesting.

40:40 You can do all kinds of self-sacrificial things, but if we don't have love, it says it's nothing. So it's kind of strange to me that we could actually sacrifice in that way and love not be a part of it, but we want love to be, to be the motivational factor for us. So some closing questions. What's the most loving thing that someone has done for you? How did it make you feel? Or what's the most loving thing the Lord has done for you? And how did that make you feel? How would Yeshua like you to express his love? Seems like an ominous task, right?

41:25 So many requirements or whatever. I missed this on a slide. I wanted to share something. So, so remember, even though this is an admonition to love, it's a doing thing. Don't forget his forgiveness and that we're made righteous by trusting in him. So the righteousness comes from trusting, but he still wants us to love. I have, I've had more and it's changing a little bit. I've had more of a Greek mindset or way of thinking. So, and the way I've kind of thought over time is if I, if I'm just trusting in his making me right?

42:11 Well, I don't gotta do anything. Not that I didn't wanna do anything, but I don't have to do anything, right? Because if I do anything, I'm not trusting in what he's provided. But the key is we've gotta trust in what he's provided. I think that's the most paramount thing. However, we have a command to love, right? So the two exist at the same time. You're made righteous and we still have to love with the love he's provided. So how would Yeshua like you to express his love? So let's look at a couple things that we started with. This might help as we go through life this week. Love is not envious. It's not wanting to take something that someone else has.

42:57 It's not boastful, bragging, egotistic, cocky or conceited. It's not arrogant, puffed up, brazen or haughty. It's not rude, discourteous, impolite or unmanly. It doesn't insist on its own way or push its own agenda. It's not easily provoked, it's not resentful. It doesn't keep a count of wrong. It's not bitter, hateful, spiteful. I'm sympathetic or belligerent. Are you ever in a conversation with somebody, even somebody that you love and you might answer currently or roughly? It's like, oh, why did I do that? 43:43 It's patient. It bears pain, provocation or annoyance with calmness or understanding kind, sympathetic and helpful, rejoices with the truth. The word of God is the reference or standard for truth. Bears all things continues to love. Spite of flaws or weaknesses, believes all things maintains faith in others and their potential, despite challenges or doubts, hopes all things continues to believe that God can redeem an individual or a situation endures all things continues to love in spite of difficult circumstances. So maybe take one or two of these this week and practice those, right? Not that you're not already, but, and it never ends.

44:30 It persists, it remains, it lasts. So now faith, hope and love abide. But the greatest of these is love.
