You Are Not Alone

I thank you for, uh, his service here at Ham. Lord, I pray that you would, uh, continue to minister to him and to his family. Lord, I thank you for the, the, uh, the time that he has put into preparing this message. Lord,

0:47 I pray that you would speak to each of us through him today, Lord, that you would minister to this congregation through Barry's words that you would speak to us, and we bless you and praise you in Yeshua's name. Amen. Amen. Thank you, rabbi. Okay. So, uh, Shabbat Shalom, everybody, uh, it's an honor to, uh, to be able to speak here today. Um, I'd like to take a few moments and for you to think about Yeshua's time with his disciples. Right? He called each of them. They learned to trust him. They saw him do miracles. He taught them how to walk with the Lord, how to pray, how to witness how to live. They saw him heal people. They saw him confront the self-sufficient and the proud.

1:36 They saw him relate to the weak and those in need. They saw his devotion to the Father through the time he spent in prayer. He was an at hand guide, teacher, example, and friend. They drew their strength from him. Then he tells him one night, this was before he was arrested, tells him that he was going away, and that it would actually be better. That he goes away than he would, that he would send them the helper. Well, how could that statement be true? How could anything be better than having Yeshua right there with them? Have you ever felt alone in your walk with the Lord? Have you that if Yeshua would be just right here physically,

2:22 things would be better? I could talk to him. I could ask him something. You know, a lot of times people would come to him and he'd kind of challenge him, right? But you'd even have that. So if I, if I just kept going, he'd, he'd, he'd hear me and he'd answer me, you know, I could ask him for healing. I could ask him for whatever. Do you ever feel insufficient, inadequate, powerless? I'm here to tell you that you're not alone. Yeshua has sent the helper, the comforter, to teach us, to guide us, to give us stability and faith, to recognize that God is our father, our daddy, our friend, and to empower us to walk with him. Several months ago, rabbi Ari suggested that we spend time, you know,

3:08 after our quiet time, after reading the word, after praying, just listening to the Lord. And that's not real easy for me to do. So I made a habit of doing it, which I haven't kept up, be honest all the time. But I felt like through that, that he was telling me that he was with me. Well, sometimes I felt his presence and sometimes not so much. So what does it mean that he is with me, that he'll never leave me? I started by reading the word just in my normal time and noting passages about the Kodesh or the Holy Spirit, and then taking them and cutting, you know, you can cut and paste, of course, with all kinds of apps, and just pasting them into a, into a program that I use. And I collected all of those, and I tried to kind of make sense outta outta what they would mean.

3:56 I was not trying, I, I was purposely not trying to support any doctrinal position. Just kind of see what the, what the word said. So let's take a walk through some scripture passages that will help us in our understanding of the ruak, what he is like, what he does, and how he helps us. Father, we ask for your guidance and direction as we study your word. May what happens in this place be good for your kingdom and Yeshua's name. So Yeshua has sent the helper. Now, I'm gonna kind of go back and forth between just reading some scriptures. I've been told by folks that I use a lot of scripture in messages. It's been kind of a while since I preached, but that's just kind of the way it works out for me. So here, um, Yeshua describes the role of the Kodesh, and I'm just gonna read this,

4:44 and then we're gonna look at what it says. If you love me, keep my commandments and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper to be with you forever, even the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you, yet, a little while in the world will see me no more, but you will see me because I live. You also will live in that day. You will know that I am in my Father, and you and me, and I and you, whoever has my commandments and keeps them. He, it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my father. And we, and I will love him and manifest myself to him a little farther on.

5:32 But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. But when the helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you will also bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. Here, Yeshua states the important importance of the Holy Spirit to the believer. He says that the Kodesh or the Holy Spirit will convict the world.

6:18 And Yeshua states the role of the Holy Spirit and the believer. But now I am going to him who sent me. And none of you asked me, where are you going? But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away. If I do not go away, the helper will not come to you. But if I do go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment concerning sin, because they do not believe in me concerning righteousness. Because I go to the Father and you'll see me no longer concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them. Now, when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.

7:05 He will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the father has is mind. Therefore, I said, he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Okay? First, we see that his followers were not gonna be left on their own without the loving counsel of a father and the help of a father. And Yeshua says that it's actually an advantage that he goes, so that the followers would have the kodesh. Why might, why might that be? To me, it seems that walking by sight is a lot easier than walking by faith. However,

7:50 the believers' access would not be limited to those in Yeshua's immediate presence. Can you imagine if, um, the way we came to the Lord or would be able to talk to him, would be we would have to go through some intermediary person right on Earth? Now, that message could get distorted, it could get changed. Maybe we wouldn't get any time, right? Maybe we're not on the good list. So we couldn't, uh, we couldn't, uh, get our, uh, time to talk with him. So this allows access to all at the same time, an internal witness, intercessor, comforter, counselor, advocate, helper, individual, personal impact. Now, how many of us would jump at the chance to be with Yeshua if he was physically in this place? How much more is he now here by his ruah?

8:42 Now the helper we're told, convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The gravity of sin as demonstrated by our Messiah, Yeshua, having to pay the price, the need for righteousness that he provides, and a defeat of Satan and the certainty of judgment. Now, the ruak, I think, convicts people on an individual level. How many of us, before we came to know Yeshua, felt his conviction and working, but I believe he also convicts through us, through his believers, right? So we're salt and light, and sometimes I think we may aggravate folks in the world. So he,

9:27 he might convict the world through us. And that might be why the world doesn't always like believers. So the talk about the indwelling, uh, roja, Kadesh Yeshua says, the helper will manifest the father and son to believers, make their home with the believer. The helper will teach us all things. He illuminates the word of God. What does illuminate mean? Kind of make it known. Uh, give understanding where things might be difficult to understand. And also I would think applicability to various situations, right? So we're all going through different things, and sometimes the scripture verse will just pop out, and it's, it's the, it's the ruak. The spirit of God just convicting us or showing us or comforting us.

10:17 So he illuminates, he teaches us, um, the helper, as Yeshua said, will bring to remembrance the things that Yeshua has said and done. He brings those things to our mind. Now, think about this aspect. So the believers in his presence were made bold. Remember how Yeshua was about to be arrested? And Simon Peter was so bold, he cut off the, you know, the, the servant of the high priest, right ear, right? So he was ready to fight to the death. What happened after Yeshua was gone, a lot of them became scared, right? They didn't have his physical presence. So just as Yeshua made those disciples bold, I believe the Ruok makes us bold. May not always feel it, may not always be open to it, but he can make us, make us bold.

11:08 So we're told also that the helper will declare things that are yet to come. He knows the future, right? And sometimes he might tell us something that's gonna happen so that we can be more prepared for that. Um, the helper will guide us in all truth, through darkness, navigating various philosophies. Anybody looked at the news lately and what's going on? We got one thing that's important today, another thing that's important tomorrow, another thing that's important another day. And if you're not on that bandwagon, you're bad. Um, how do you know what's true? Right? So the Ruaha Kadesh is here. He can guide us. Of course we have the word of God, and we'll talk about that more later. But he can guide us through hard times and good times. Now,

11:55 here's something about the Ruak. He does not speak on his own authority. He's not even here to glorify himself. He's not even here to represent himself. The helper is not here to represent himself. The helper will glorify Yeshua. So after Yeshua was raised in the upper room, if I remember right, he met with his disciples. And, uh, after Yeshua's resurrection, he appeared disciples and breathed on them for them to receive the kodesh. At that point, the disciples had the indwelling ruak or spirit to guide comfort and direct them. Now, not only is the in dwellings of the Holy Spirit needed,

12:42 but the power of the ruak is needed. Now, there's some of us in here that are real good in going out and sharing our faith, right? They kind of live for that, and they're wired for that, and they're empowered for that. But I would think that they get that power from, from the spirit of God. So what did Yeshua say to his Tal Meade? He said to wait for power before going out from Jerusalem. And while they were staying with them, he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which he said, you heard from me for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. And another verse, but you'll see power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you'll be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria,

13:28 and to the ends of the earth. Amen? So they were filled with the ruak on Chava oat. When the day of Pentecost arrived, or Chava oat, they were all together in one place, and suddenly there came from heaven, a sound like a mighty rushing wind. And it's filled the entire house where they were sitting and divided tongues as a fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in, in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. So we have a bunch of people boldly proclaiming Yeshua. And later on that afternoon, Peter delivered a message and it was a bold message. And what do we understand? Around 3000 people came to know the Lord. So that's boldness from a,

14:17 from an individual who was hiding, scared, right, scared to you, uh, be associated with Yeshua. Now he's got this boldness. A little bit later on, the disciples prayed for continued, continued boldness. And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken. They were all filled with the roja kadesh and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. So Yeshua declares that his disciples will be baptized with the ruak. They will receive power to be his witnesses. And on the day, Shava oath, the ruak filled the believers in what happened? They became bold.

15:03 And also as a byproduct of that, people came to know Yeshua. Now, let's look at the, the spirit in the TaNaK. You know, the roja eSSH didn't just appear when Yeshua was on earth, right? So we're told in Genesis one, one that the spirit of God was there at creation. The spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters, you know, the spirit of God impart skills were told that bezel was given fine craftsman skills needed for the construction of the tabernacle. So these weren't minor craftsman skills. These were pretty, pretty powerful skills. I'll read a little bit then Moses said to the people of Israel, see,

15:49 the Lord has called the name Bezel, the son of your Yuri, the son of her, of the tribe of Judah. And he has filled him with the spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, and cutting stones for setting and in carving wood for work in every skilled craft. And he has inspired him to teach both him and a whole, a whole lab. And I had these before, a hashima of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver, a designer, and by an embroider in blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and a fine and twisted linen by any sort of workman or skilled designer.

16:37 So here we have the Holy Spirit giving fine skills to an individual or individuals, and then they taught other people those skills. The Ruak was with Joshua we're told. So when it was time for Joshua to succeed, Moses, um, the Lord said, take Joshua the son of none, a man in whom is my spirit, and lay your hand on him. Now, the spirit of God wasn't with all people at all times, you know, he was with different individuals at different times. But here we have him being with Joshua, The Ruaha Kadesh, uh, upon prophets were told that, um, prophets spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

17:25 So the Ru Hakodesh prophesied through Azariah and second Chronicles, uh, 15 one, we are told the spirit of God came upon Azariah, the son of ODed, and that he went out to meet King Asa and said to him, hear me Asa and all, Judah and Benjamin, the Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you. But if you forsake him, he will forsake you. And then Isaiah prophesied about Yeshua. And then Yeshua repeated this message when, remember when he read the read scroll, when Shabbat, the spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim liberty to the captives, the opening of the prison to those who are bound to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God to comfort all who mourn.

18:11 And then Zachariah in another place. The word of the Lord says, Abel, not by might nor by power, but my by my spirit says the Lord of hosts. So the Ruak spoke through the various prophets. Another uh, verse from Isaiah where Isaiah prophesied about Yeshua, there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse in a branch from the root, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit and the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him. Spirit of wisdom and understanding the spirit of counsel and might spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. So we see wisdom, understanding counsel might knowledge and a fear of the Lord.

18:56 Now, before, and I'm gonna talk about that a little bit, you know, I mentioned, you know, the Ruak helps us see that God is our Father. And I think it's even like Abba Daddy, right? But there's also the fear of the Lord that's there. So he's our father, he's our daddy. But there's a fear that's that's, that's there too. All right, let's look through the Book of Acts and, uh, some passages there. As we talked about before, the Roja Kadesh enabled the believers to speak the word of God with boldness. The Ruak ha Kadesh filled Stephen. Remember, Stephen gave the, uh, quite a long dissertation about how the Lord worked with Israel. And, um, he kind of stirred up a crowd and they were about to stone him.

19:43 But the Ruak gave him a vision. He saw Yeshua at the right hand of God. So he can give us a vision too. The Ruak gave specific direction to Philip to go to the Ethe Opium Unix chariot. Um, if you remember that, that accounting, uh, Ethiopian Eunuch was writing in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah, and the spirit said, go up to his chariot. And what did he do? He went up there and he asked him if he knew what he was reading. And he said, well, how can I know what I'm reading unless somebody interpreted for me? And so the Ruak gave specific direction to a specific individual at a specific time. And then what happened? The Ethe, you know, he shared other verses with him, other passages, and, uh, Unix said,

20:31 what's to stop me from getting baptized? So he won him to, to Yeshua. How? Because the Ruak gave him a specific direction to do that. And then we see that the Ruak carried Philip up away to another place as described in Acts. Don't understand exactly how that works, but it, but he did it. And then what do we have the story of Peter? Remember Peter was on, um, I think he was waiting for dinner time and he was up on the roof praying, and he fell into kind of a sleep or a trance, and he saw the sheet being let down with all the kinds of creatures, four different kinds of animals. And, and what did the voice say to him? Arise, Peter, kill and eat. And he was like, I'm not eating that stuff. And then it happened three times and he was like, what's going on here and what do we have after that?

21:17 So the spirit of God then said there was some men that just coincidentally, which it really wasn't a coincidence happened to arrive at the house and the Spirit said, go with those guys. So we went to them and, and, um, testimony of Yeshua was shared, shared with the Gentiles. So we gave him specific direction at a specific time to do a specific thing. We seated the Ruok speaks through prophets of things yet to come in. Acts were told that Agabus stood up and fore told by the spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world. Well, this appears to be done so that the disciples could make some kind of preparation for that. Um, Paul filled with the spirit, called out judgment on LMAs the magician as he wanted to turn the

22:04 proco from the faith. So, so Paul Rob Shaul is, is trying to share with the proco. And this guy that's a magician is trying to steer him away and keep him off track. So what does Paul, Paul filled with the Ruok? He calls him out and says, um, but Saul, who was called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making the crooked, crooked the straight paths of the Lord and then mist and something the guy couldn't see. And then the pro council was like, wow, that's really cool. And then he, he was open to Yeshua. So the spirit, um, again filled, filled Paul to do a specific thing.

22:51 The roja Kadesh filled the disciples with joy after they were persecuted for speaking about Yeshua. What's the normal result of being persecuted? Or somebody says something that you know, man, that was terrible or whatever gets to be, you know, it's to be sad, right? But they were filled with joy. The roja Kadesh provides direction, um, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia in this case it was don't go that way. And then they figured out, I think they wound up going to Macedonia, right? Cuz Paul had a vision, but they were told not to go to a couple places so he can tell us where to go and where not to go. In fact, there was an interesting thing with that yesterday. Um, I'd planted some seeds in the front, flower seeds and it's starting to grow up,

23:38 but they're being overcome with weeds and they're not doing very well. Anyway, so I said, I'm gonna just go pull these out. And I had this thought come to me, I don't know that it was the spirit of God or not, was says, go get your gloves. And I said, now they're just, I didn't even think about it. So I pull this stuff down and it's like, what is wrong with my hands? It was some kind of nettle. So anyway, so listen to that. Still small voice. He may be speaking to you. So how does one receive the Roja Kadesh? Now again, I didn't take this to go support any kind of doctrinal position or anything. So I found there's like six different passages I have from the word that I wanna just read to you. So loving and following Yeshua, if you love me,

24:24 you will keep my commandments and I will ask the father, and he will give you another helper to be with you forever, even the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him or knows him, you know him. For he will dwell with you and be in you Yeshua, He his disciples, as we, as I mentioned before, peace be with you as the Father sent me even so I am sending you. And when he, when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit repenting and being baptized into Yeshua, Peter said to them, repent and let each one of you be immersed in the name of Messiah, Yeshua, for the removal of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Ruak Hakodesh for the promise is for you

25:10 and your children and all who are far away. As many as Adam and I are God calls to himself Laying on of hands, right? When you pray for somebody, you pray that God would impart. Um, now when the emissaries in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the message of God, they sent Peter and John to them, they came down and prayed for them to receive the Rua Hakodesh, for he had not yet come upon them. Had they had only been immersed in the name of the Lord, Yeshua, they began laying hands on them. And they, as they were receiving the Akaka Kadesh at the preaching of the word, while Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word, and then upon belief and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. Therefore,

25:58 if God gave them the same gift as he also to us, after we put our trust in the Lord Messiah, Yeshua, who was I to stand in God's way. So I believe that all believers have the ruak, so we have the spirit of God. So how does the Ruok work in our lives? As I mentioned earlier, as I read the word, I would capture different verses. And then it was like took a while to try to figure out how this, how this all fits together. Anyway, just kind of felt led to put them in various categories, uh, to see if that made more sense to me or was more, more helpful. So let's go through those categories. You might have chosen different categories, but the Ruak gives us faith,

26:44 Faith to trust him, faith to believe in him. He changes us. He's, you know, some of that changed when we come to Yeshua. You know, I know when I came to Yeshua many years ago watching a TV program, some things instantaneously changed in my life. Other things had been a process. He's even still working on me with things now, right? So there's a sanctification process. He changes us, he helps us. He may help us when we're strong. He also helps us when we're weak. He bears fruit in us and then he gives gifts to each of us that are intended to build up his body and he makes us bold. So let's go through each of these areas.

27:31 So the Roja Kadesh reveals Yeshua and enables us to believe in Yeshua. Therefore, I want you to understand that no one's speaking in the spirit of God ever says Yeshua is a cursed. And no one can say Yeshua is Adonai or Yeshua is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit, the Roja Kadesh gives us the mind of Messiah. So we don't just have our own mind, we have the mind of Messiah revealing the things of God that we might understand the things freely given us by God, that we can impart this in words taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths. He gives us the mind of Messiah.

28:17 So the spirit bears witness that we are children of God by whom we cry out. Abba, father or daddy. You know, some of us are comfortable with lifting our hands and worship. Maybe some of us not so much. But you ever watch Rabbi Ari's kids when I want him to pick him up, what do they do? They raise their hands to him, right? So that's kind of an analogy I think, but the spirit bears witness that we're children of God and that God is our father, right? The roja codes strengthens with power, our inner beings. So that Messiah may dwell in our hearts through faith that we would know the length and the height and the depth of his love change. The Holy Spirit works change in our lives.

29:09 He circumcised and writes on our hearts, You know, In him, you are being built together into a dwelling place. Well, let me hold that onto that for one minute. So living letters, so the spirit of God writes on our hearts. He circumcised us, he changes us, and he makes us a testimony. The kodesh sanctifies the believers. So what is sanctification? That's a process that sometimes can be a little painful, right? But he is, um, excuse me for one second. So sanctifies us, works with us, changes us through the process. Over time,

29:54 the kodesh poured out richly through our messiah, Yeshua our savior, watches regenerates and renews us, and the kodesh seals us and is a guarantee of what's to come. And the u the ruak makes us one body. You know, we each have different giftings, um, and we'll talk about those a little bit later, but each of us are kind of wired a different way, but we're all in, in one body. So the Lord's gonna work through Rabbi Ari, right? And he's given him particular gifts. He's gonna work through each of us in, in a it to pull that together to make the body one.

30:40 So the Ruaha tradition, our lives as a helper, uh, like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit and its season and its leaf does not wither in all he does, he prospers. So like that tree by the water, the life we get comes from the, from the spirit of God. Spirit helps us in our weakness. He intercedes for us sometimes with groanings that, that words can't, um, express. He provides hope, he provides comfort, he pours forth his love in us, and he enables righteousness, peace, and joy in our hearts. Now, we may not always feel like that, but that's what he does.

31:28 And the ruak gives life. He bears fruit in us. Whole messages and more have been done with, with this passage in Galatians. But let's just look at some of the fruit where we have love and joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. So he bears fruit in each of us. Then he gives us gifts, Gifts that are there for the building up of the body. He gives gifts of his choosing. Again, these, all these gifts, we might practice them all to some extent, but to one is given wisdom to another, knowledge, to another faith,

32:14 to another gift of healing, gifts of healing to another, working of miracles, prophecy, ability to distinguish between spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. All of these are designed to build up the body. And I've got a lot of references here. So all these references are the outline to this is actually on the you version. If you've got that app, you can look at the scripture references if you're interested. And then Acts chapter two also describes prophecy, dreams, vision signs, wonders through the rah. He gives us boldness. The roja Kadesh provides boldness to witness. But you'll see power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And you'll be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria,

33:03 and to the ends of the earth. So he gives us faith, faith to trust him in good times, difficult times. He changes us, he helps us. Are you feeling weak? Are you strong? And you need some direction? He bears fruit in us. He gives gi gifts to each of us that are there to build up the, the body. And he makes us bold. Now, is it possible that we could do some things that will, let's say, inhibit or thwart the ruak in our lives? Can we do some things that would mess that up? Right? We don't wanna do that,

33:50 but is that possible? I think it is. So we're told in several places some different things we're, we're warned about quenching the spirit and, and like what is quenching the spirit? So I just did some study and, and um, This is kind, well, hopefully this has led course by the spirit, but I wrote down these three things. So forgetting that the ruaha kadesh is in us. So not noticing that, not believing that or not wanting that. So forgetting who he is and what he does. And here's the hard one, wanting our own way as opposed to his way. You know, if he's living in us, right, he's living in us. Do we want what he wants all the time, right? I dare say there's probably a lot of times where we might not want what he wants, but forgetting who he is and what he does and wanting our own way and

34:38 that making us kind of opposed or not open, let's say to his way, but he's kind and he's gentle and he woos us, right? Being led by the flesh. I think that can mess it up too. We're told to flee sexual immorality as our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So do not sin against our own body. Now, I would dare say in a group this size and those that are watching on the web, there's probably a few folks that are stuck in that right now, right? You can get stuck in that and it's hard to get out, but we're told to flee sexual immorality. First Thessalonians four, one through eight, also urges, restraint from sexual immorality. And then one who disregards this disregards God who gives you his raw

35:25 hakodesh. So now if you're happen to be not looking for hands by any means, but if you're stuck in that, right, Are you toast or can the Lord touch you and help you? But we're we're supposed to do it with an attitude of loving each other,
