What Is The State Of Your House?

And now perhaps his entered into some some difficult times of trial and they're beginning to question. because he's writing to him and he says

He's already accepted that fact, but now he has to have Assurance he might know for sure what's going on so you can imagine Theophilus is going through some sort of struggle. And what what we? What we witnessed through the through the Book of Luke. our simple acts of confirmation about the inbreaking of the Kingdom of Heaven which is a there's a two-fold operation here, which I mentioned last week and I mentioned almost every week when I do this on

So I'm I'm in tantalize tantalizing is that the right word? I'm wetting your appetite so that you can come on a Wednesday night. But so that you may know for sure. What we're teaching here? Those never mind. Anyways, the Kingdom of Heaven is is there's this

And what what I mentioned every time is that there's two different ways that we can witness the inbreaking of the Kingdom of Heaven. Number one. The king is returning so we see acts that confirm that the king is returning. But number two. We the you know, there's this way and then there's this way. So this way is the king is returning so we see things that that cause us to to consider how it is that the king's returning and and what is it that he's going to do. But but number two we are to bring our lives into alignment with the King. You see I don't know about you.

3:54 No, I do know about you. But I'll pretend I don't know about you. Our lives are not in alignment with the King. It's very simple. We can read any part of the Bible and we can determine how it is that our lives are not in alignment with the King. and then Yeshua Yeshua doesn't make it any easier he decides well, let's just double down on that. Not only are you not allowed to murder somebody which by the way No, I don't know anybody here is murdered anybody. Okay. Well, so we're good with that part not we're not allowed to murder anybody but you're not even allowed to hate. anybody

4:41 Well now I don't know how many of us could keep our hands up as to having not committed to that transgression. Because it becomes difficult when people irritate us. And then they continue to irritate us. And then they know what buttons to push because they can tell they're irritating us. And then we get more irritated. And then we get more irritated and then all of a sudden. We can look at ourselves and see that we are not in alignment with the King. So you see the King has to come but also we have to bring ourselves into alignment with the King. So last week we talked about this prayer at the

5:27 beginning of chapter 11 of the Book of Luke. Which corresponds to to the prayer that's found in the Book of Matthew chapter 6. Which I call the Aveeno prayer. or Our Father Who Art in Heaven Yeah, is it going did you already trigger it for you? Okay, great. We'll move on but your brain is going to finish that thought. Because that's what our brains do. When we when we get triggered, we finish the thought because our brains don't our brains aren't like. my Google Chrome where I have 21 tabs open. Our brains like to close the tab. You see so when I say Our Father Who Art in Heaven

6:14 and I continue on your brain is going to continue through it so we can close the tab and it doesn't have to think about it. Any it doesn't have to really continue to process. But when you say or when you pray father, this is from Luke chapter 11 verses 2 through 4. Father. May your name be kept holy may your kingdom come give us each day the day the food. We need forgive us our sins for we too forgive everyone who is wronged us and do not lead us to hard testing. You see so last week we talked about. prayer in the functionality that prayer serves it's through prayer that we the citizens

6:59 of the Kingdom bring our lives into alignment with the coming King. But it's also through prayer that we can petition to hasten the coming kingdom of God. You see so we're still working from this way. And from this way. So now we come to this week's. I want to say portion but I don't want to confuse you. It's not the Torah portion. This week's section that I've I've delineated to cover this weekend. It's Luke 11 verses 14 through 28. And I'll read it and then we'll come back and break it down.

And and if the Lord is like a father it says, you know father who's gonna get if we as bad as evil dad give our kids good gifts. How is it that we expect anything else from the Lord in heaven? Who is our father except a good gift. Namely the good gift of the ruach hakodesh. So that's where we left off. That was the last. Breath through the last words that we read and now it says and he was expelling a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out the man who had been mute spoke. And the people were astounded.

8:35 But some of them said it is by but all the bull the ruler of the demons that he expels the demons and others trying to trap him demanded from him a sign from heaven. But he knowing what they were thinking said to them every Kingdom divided against itself will be ruined. with one house collapsing against another so if the adversary too is divided against himself, how can his kingdom survive? Those who are not with me are against me and those who do not gather with me are scattering. When an unclean Spirit comes out of a person that travels through Dry country seeking rest on finding none. It says I will return to the house I left. When it arrives, it finds a house swept clean and put an order then it goes and takes seven other Spirits more evil than itself and they come and live there so that in the end the person is worse off than he was before. As Yeshua was saying these things a woman in the crowd raised her voice to call out. How blessed is the mother that

10:07 gave birth to you and nursed you from her breasts. But he said far more blessed are those who hear the word of God and Obey it and that is where we will stop for the day. Now I'm going to make some points as we as we go through this. Passage first of all The passage starts with a miracle. Yeshua expelled a demon that was causing a man to be mute and it says after the parts of the spirit that the man spoke. So you see the miracle is that the man couldn't speak? And then after Yeshua did his Miracle the man spoke?

10:54 It was witnessed by everyone that was present. And there's there's three reactions that we see in the crowd number one the reaction. It says the people were astounded. amazed astonished or maybe we can say we're in awe. You know if you if you go and you see someone who hasn't been able to speak. perhaps their whole life and then Three seconds later the person can speak you also. Well, you might have one of these three reactions. You also might be in awe or astounded. reaction number two Some said that Yeshua was operating by the authority of both Beelzebub which

11:40 translates as Lord of the Flies or ruler of the demons in other words. This is another name for Satan. The Yeshua is operating Under The Authority. of Satan to expel demons by their response by coming to this response. What we can conclude is the people recognize the success. Of yeshua's expelling the demon from the man. You see so it's not that they're denying the miracle. Or what actually happened? It's where they are attributing the power and authority to have come from

12:25 they questioned the source of Deliverance. and reaction number three and there were others and they tried to trap Yeshua by demanding a sign from heaven. So this group? They may accept a miracle or they may not but what they're what they're demanding is another sign from Heaven to confirm that it's happened. In other words, they're questioning Yeshua and what his claims are. So Yeshua comes with a response. And I'm going to say he is this I'm gonna say he has a three-part response here.

13:12 and he begins to address Well, actually he begins to do what we don't normally see Yeshua do which is address each group in their in their doubts. Well, we normally see Yeshua do is when someone questions him he turns it. And and turns the table and flips it over and questions that person back. Which I guess he does do in this in this case, but he he addresses each group. He first says every Kingdom by the way, she was response and then we have the We have Luke's commentary. It says knowing what they were thinking. You see Yeshua knew what they what each group was thinking.

13:58 What it was that they were questioning. So yeshua's response knowing what they were thinking is number one every Kingdom divided against itself will be ruined. in every house collapsing on one another in other words if there's a kingdom divided it's going to fall. in other words if the casting out of a demon is work against Satan. then it's apart from the kingdom, but if it's By the authority of Satan then it's within the kingdom and it makes it a divided kingdom. Does that make sense? And thus if it's apart from Satan then

14:46 it's working toward the defeat of the satanic Kingdom. if Yeshua is accomplishing this on Satan's Authority then actually is not doing anything. Except for hurting the kingdom because he's Satan's already taken ground. And why would he lose ground? In the process you see so Yeshua attracts addresses this what do you call? contradiction right here and he says if I'm working under the authority of Boozled deals about then I'm working to destroy Satan's own kingdom and it's a divided Kingdom and it won't stand anyways. part 2 Yeshua says I'm not the only one who casts out demons in Judea

15:33 in the Galilee. So by whose authority do those others operate? You see that Yeshua is not the only one during this time period that's doing things like this. That is expelling demons from people's lives. So if Yeshua says this and he says others are that are Healing The Afflicted by whose authorities are they accomplishing those healings? You see? So here's Yeshua beginning to turn the question on the group. And I actually Wonder because there's a little bit more in the Greek. There's a little bit more of a personal nature. It doesn't just say. By whom do these other people it says by whom do your sons

16:19 cast out demons? So now I'm wondering I have a question, which I'm not going to answer, but I'll ask the question. Is there more personal relationship that's being affected here. In other words, is there a business? That's being affected by yeshua's free operation of Deliverance. The reason I asked that question is because we started with this premise nearly a year ago that the Book of Luke and acts are a singular composition. But we see this occurring in Acts also. Where there is deliverance from Spirits? And it affects someone's business. And then they go back and they attack Paul. at this point and they say oh he's messing with

17:07 the our religion. He's not he's messing with their business. It's not their real. It's not the gods of the of the other people. I mean it is kind of but But he's messing with their business and it's their business. Once it's being affected that causes them to have a reaction. They have zero care for the gods of of Rome. As long as they get money in their pockets. And so this is why I wonder when when Yeshua says by whom do your sons? cast out demons I wonder if there's a business that's it being affected. I don't know. It's a question. And then he says your sons will be judges as to the authority by which. I'm casting out demons. So part three of yeshua's responses this if

17:52 Yeshua drives out demons by the Finger of God. If that's the conclusion you see so we've examined two other possibilities and now you should lead us to a third if I drive out demons by the kingdom of by the Finger of God. Then you are witness that the kingdom of God is here. You see so all of this is to prove that the kingdom of God is is beginning to break in. To our to this Kingdom that we recognize here. Now this Finger of God reference is reminiscent to me of two different passages. number one from Exodus chapter 8

18:38 Let me just recall to your mind. The early parts of books of the book of Exodus Moses comes back and he goes to pharaoh and he says the god of my people told me to let let my people go. And then Pharaoh Moses does different acts miraculous miracles. And this one we come to to the miracle number three, which is Nats. Sometimes I feel like Moses is still sending gnats our way in, Texas. But anyways. We come to Nats. And the gnats are just so heavy on on Egypt. That The Magicians who up until this point have been able to copy every miracle. The Magicians go to pharaoh and they say

19:25 what are they saying? This is the Finger of God. We can't do that. So there's a little bit of me that wonders these others that are here in this passage in Luke. Will these others be like The Magicians or will they be like pharaoh? Will they recognize that as by the Finger of God or will they Harden their hearts? and continue to press on I also see a connection to the passage in Deuteronomy chapter 9 verses 10 and you can also see it in Exodus 31:18. the Lord gives Moses tablets Right, the Lord gives Moses tablets with the deck log.

20:12 It looks we we purport that it looks something like this. With the decalog The Ten Commandments written on it. and they're written on there by the Finger of God So Yeshua may be alluding to his Divine Authority. His words thereby having the status of Torah. Do you see what I'm do you see the connection? I'm making. By making the connection with the Finger of God. Yeshua is comparing his words. And the miraculous ability to the words of God as is found in the Torah. the Torah being

20:57 the most holy document or the Living Word of God That is the word of God, you know, we talk about this every week. Well, sometimes when the scroll comes out and I and I talk about this is the word of God and it's written on flesh done. The Taurus scroll is the word of God is recognized throughout the Jewish community and it would have been at this point also. Yeshua may be connecting his Divine authority to that exactly. Making his words have the status of Torah. And by his demonstration of Power by the casting out of demons, he is manifesting God's Kingdom. You see the acts that are happening here are the

21:43 inbreaking of the kingdom of God. But he doesn't stop there the passage continues on by the way. All of this is in one is in one sitting this we break up passages often because it makes a nice a nice break. But this is all in one thought that Yeshua is going. He's he's unpacking a lot of different things and he goes when a strong man who is fully equipped for battle guards his own house. His possessions are secure. Sounds like a reasonable Theory, doesn't it? Especially here in Texas. We all guard our own house with with reasonable amounts of weaponry. And an armor. When a strong man guards this house, he feels secure. I should ask how many of you feel secure but I don't really want to see the the

22:30 hands go up. but when someone stronger attacks and defeats him He carries off all the armor and weaponry on which the man was depending and divides up the spoils. Those who are not with me are against me and those who do not gather with me or scattering. This strong man has been able to fully equip an arm himself and and make himself comfortable in the house. Now I see this on on two different levels actually a micro and a macro or a macro and a micro whichever way you want to go. on the macro level going back to the previous passage, but all the

23:16 Bulls above has made himself comfortable here. He's stored up Weaponry. He's a strong man in this in this world and this. Is his kingdom? And he's sitting there nice and kind of kind of well, nevermind. I probably should not allude to any movies. He's a strong man, and he's at peace. Because his space is at peace. He's doesn't feel threatened. He's strong. He's all sorts of weapons. He he's able to defend himself against any onslaught. And his brain just says Ah. And I need some turkey.

24:02 Because I'm at peace. until a stronger man comes now when the stronger man comes Who wipes out the strong man of the house? And he defeats him. you see Yeshua is making illusion that he is the stronger man who's coming on the macro level who's breaking into this house and and dividing up The Spoils of this house. That's a macro level. But on a micro level I do wonder if there's a little bit of a little bit of going on with this man who has been delivered from the spirit of mutiness.

24:49 And that this spirit that there was a strong man's spirit that was in him. And that when Yeshua came and commanded him to come out. That there was a stronger Man Who provided Deliverance in this micro? Kingdom if you will or smaller house, does that make sense? So we have both a larger picture and a smaller picture. By the way, you'll find throughout scripture. often we deal with multiple levels of interpretation and a macro micro and sometimes a what's the in between? I don't know. something something in between But then Yeshua says so think about

25:34 this Yeshua has broken into if we consider the macro or the micro. It doesn't matter in this point. Yeshua has broken into this Kingdom and his dividing up the spoils and what Yeshua now says is if you're not with me. You're against me. If you're not Gathering you're scattering. In this imagery of Yeshua breaking into and defeating the strong man, and then he continues on. Quickly when with an when an unclean Spirit comes out of a person. It travels through Dry country seeking rest on finding none. It says I will return to the house I left. When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean

26:20 and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other Spirits more evil than itself. And they come and live there. So that in the end the person is worse off than he was before. Now you see I do Wonder. if Yeshua is is giving a cautionary tale here to the person that he just delivered from from the oppression of the mute spirit. Perhaps he's warning this person. that sweeping the house clean and putting in an order is not enough. You see because the spirit the unclean spirit that goes out of the man goes throughout the countryside in finding and seeking

27:08 to find rest. Why can't the spirit find rest? I'm going to leave that question with you because I don't know other than I can make a theory I can make a theoretical guess. That the spirit can't find rest because the only true rest that we can find we find in Yeshua himself. But there may be more at Play Here In this passage. But the spirit can't find rest of the spirit comes back. To check out it's plea it's previous Dwelling Place. And it finds a house in order clean and empty. It then gathers reinforcements seven additional spirits. It just as a reminder. What was

27:56 the previous? Little little short story. It was about a strong man who was defeated by a stronger man. So that Spirit goes and gets seven more just in case because it's got to take the house back. You see what I'm saying? In terms of strength. It has to take the house back. So it comes back. And he finds the house empty. clean and put in order and then moves in with the seven additional spirits. And what is the man now? Is he better off or worse off? Than he was before he's worse off. Yeshua says that this person is worse off than they were before they're Deliverance.

28:45 What is it that the person should have done differently? Now see this is where I think Luke juxtaposed or put this passage. And connected it to the previous passage on purpose. You see the previous passage was what it was praying. acting on acting in our daily lives as if we were hands and feet of the of the Lord and also asking for the Rua you see to the spirit to come and dwell within the person. So if Luke has put these two together. Then what is it that this person is lacking the person who finds the house in order clean and empty by

29:32 the way. I don't know about you guys. I have children. I love it when my house is in order. and clean I don't know about empty, but empty empties another thing. But in order and clean are such a rarity when you have younger children. That it's we sometimes strive for just that. So there could be even a slight tangent here. The issue is hinting at. As to don't strive just have a clean house. Put in order. Because that's not where the value lies. The values like this is now I'm going to take Cheryl's Cheryl's.

Now we're coming back to the micro here. This man who has been delivered from this Spirit his house. It's been cleaned out. But it has to be filled with something. Otherwise it remains empty. And so what is it that we feel it with what we start with prayer? Because that's the last thing that Yeshua told us to do and Luke. He says pray. But also that's not the exact last thing. He says pray. for the gift

31:49 that the father will give you of the holy spirit so that the Holy Spirit may come and dwell. This person should have asked for the spirit of the Lord God to dwell within them. And then when that demonic Spirit came back, it wouldn't have found a house empty. It might have been in order and maybe clean but it wouldn't have been empty. It would have been full of the spirit of life. and as Yeshua was saying these things a woman in the crowd raised her voice to call out how blessed is the mother that gave birth to you and Nursery from her breasts, but he said far more blessed are those who hear the word of God and Obey it? So what is the blessing here?

32:38 Yeshua is giving this teaching concerning a miracle that he had just performed in a woman calls out about how blesses the woman who gave birth to Yeshua and nursed him. It's like an odd juxtaposition for me. And maybe maybe what's appropriate in public Gatherings has changed from then to now. But that's just like an odd thing if if one of y'all already call out, how blessed is your mother who gave birth and nursed you like that's a weird thing to me. But Yeshua, he doesn't just say but he said actually it's a stronger. It's a stronger counter. He says on the contrary.

33:23 or not that but this those who hear the word and Obey it are far more blessed. You see it's interesting because one of the most important prayers in Judaism talks about hearing the Lord and within that context it's it's combined this idea this concept of hearing and obeying are the are the same concept with wrapped within the same word. And so when you hear the Lord you obey him? And what we have here is actually it's it's expounded even a little bit more because this word here. Obey it also means to guard.

34:11 Now we get into what? What is true what we find in Judaism all the time? When we guard we get extra defensive, yeah. You know when we guard. When the defense comes out and guards against the New York Giants. And proves they're just never mind I should. I go too far with this example. But when we guard we get a little bit more actively engaged. As opposed to just hearing and obeying guarding is is we're pushing a little bit. It's a little bit more active and in defensive also.

34:56 But to guard indicates that one ensures the word itself. Is protected from misuse? Yeshua challenged the people to respond to what they were hearing and seeing about the arrival of the kingdom of God. You see that's what's happening right now in this passage. Yeshua is challenging people to respond to these instances that he's telling them are the inbreaking of the kingdom of God. And he's equating himself. Now. I'm going back to this Finger of God notion. He's equating himself with the Divine Torah. The word of God that comes straight from the mouth of God and he says, both are

35:43 here. And this is represent. It's not representative. It's proof that God's kingdom is breaking in right now. What are you going to do about it? And so the people have to respond. And we're going to finish there. I'm going to leave it. With with just that I'm gonna end it there, but I'm gonna make some cool. I'm gonna have some questions here for us. I asked this one last week and I think this this question needs to be asked all the time. What purpose? Does prayer serve in our lives? You see because prayer is a multifaceted.

36:37 I don't know what the word is. I'm looking for it's multifaceted. I'll just leave it that way. It's multifaceted in in it can be used in different ways. You know prayer it's kind of like a Leatherman. It's a ranch. It's a it's pocket knife. It's like everything wrapped into one. The my example just go everybody is over. Everybody's head Leatherman. Okay, it's a multi-use tool multi-use tool. Okay. What purpose does prayer serve in our lives? Here's another question have we witnessed any miracles of the Lord? And if we have how do we react to them? Are we astounded do we claim that it's something else other than what it appears.

37:24 Or do we demand a sign from heaven? I want to share a story with you real quickly. This must be about 20 years ago. I was in Ethiopia. I shared this story before so if you've heard the story you can like, you know, text your friend or whatever. I was in Ethiopia and and we got there. And there was an there was a famine and a drought in in the southern part of Ethiopia. And so we were praying for the Lord to to you know to stop the famine and stop the drought. And we're in Ethiopia for about a month and about three weeks. Later. There's a man who came from Southern Ethiopia.

38:13 And he shared this story that it started. to rain fish through earlier so if there's a drought and a famine what is raining fish do It cures both. And it's not just like dead fish. But when the fish hit the the Earth they continued to flop They were alive they were live fish. I'm this is a true story and I can find you the article if I if I can find it. It's been a while since I found it, but I can find you the article where it talks about it, but I read this article years later.

38:59 And the the person says this was an amazing event. and the storm came over the Indian Ocean and there was such low pressure in the storm that it sucked up. fish and water Into the Storm and then it moved over Ethiopia and it dropped the fish in the water. There's a scientific explanation in by all means. I have no problem with it. But do you know what? God isn't worried about coincidences. He's worried about timing. Do you know when that storm dropped fish and water when they were in a famine with no water? I'm fine with the scientific explanation, but it's

39:46 a miracle of God that it happened at that moment. And so we sometimes can be astounded we sometimes claim it's something other than what it appears to be or sometimes we demand for a further sign from heaven. How is it that you react to miracles of the Lord? What is the state of your heart? Are we going to be like The Magicians or like Pharaoh or like Moses and Aaron? And if you want to know which one you'll be like you have to examine what the state of your heart actually is. You see because Pharaoh denied at all and his heart heartened. Moses and Aaron witnessed it all and they continued to soften in The Magicians were like, oh no don't let us die.

40:32 So if nothing else at least be that person. Don't let us die and let's be you know, what they couldn't change Pharaoh's heart anyways. So let me let me finish with two more thoughts here has the Lord delivered you or anyone here or any any of us from oppression. Have we taken the time after that to clean out our own lives? you see cleaning out. Our lives is a lot like cleaning out our houses or our cars. Takes a lot of hard work and we have to focus and do it diligently day after day because it keeps getting messy. Have we seized the opportunity to seek the

41:19 Lord and ask for the presence? Of the ruach of the Holy Spirit In Our Lives why because our body? Is the temple or the house of the Holy Spirit? That's what Paul tells us. Finally, this is where I'm going to end. How can we recognize? The arrival of the kingdom of God and work with Yeshua and not against them what moments are there that we experience. every day You know when Marcus gets up and teaches on Wednesday nights. He he has four questions four questions. You have four questions. and one of them is how is it or who is who is

42:06 it that I'm going to share what I learned tonight with in the next week. You see the kingdom of God is not something that is. far off and it's not something that's only here. It's both. But in order to get the far off more here, the kingdom has to spread in order for the kingdom of spread people have to continue to change their lives and draw closer to the king so that the kingdom can come and the people will draw more into alignment with him and this has been true for 2,000 years. But I'll tell you today. We are closer to the kingdom of God and his fullness and they were 2000 years ago. You know how I can say that with bold confidence. Because that was 2,000 years ago.

42:52 That's my bold confidence. If they were close then. How much closer are we now? 2,000 years later So what is it that we can do? In our daily lives where we work with Yeshua and not against them because those are the only two options. There's not a maybe option. you know kind of like when you get to Facebook invite to a birthday party and you're like maybe and then everybody knows that's a no.
